Make sure that you check you fluid in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendation. Usually with the engine running and warm and the transmission in neutral.

I don't think overheating of the engine has much to do with the transmission, either automatic or manual. If you have an automatic transmission, did you check the fluid? Sometimes low fluid stops certain gears from changing, as the torque converter doesn't have enough fluid to pressurize the servos to engage the clutches.

Transmission fluid

You need to remove transmission dipstick, use the narow long funnel and pour the transmission fluid that way. Please check the level of transmission fluid only when vehicle was driven for at least half an hour. Park the vehicle on level surface and whit engine off check the transmission dipstick for range of fluid . If fluid is low add carefully to the center mark of the dipstick between minimum and maximum range. Drive vehicle or select each gear down and back holding your brake and at each gear for 10 seconds up and down the shifter. Check the level again and add if needed. Repeat til you have reach that level. Do not overfill it!

How to check transmission fluid level? with the engine idling or?

TRANSMISSION CANT BE TOO HOT AFTER DOING A LOT OF DRIVING.BEST TIME TO CHECK TRANSMISSION FLUID WHEN ENGINE COOL.TO CHECK FLUID LEVEL.CRANK ENGINE UP.LET IT IDLE UNTIL ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION GET WARM. WITH ENGINE IDLING.SHIFT TRANSMISSION FROM PARK TO LOW 1 GEAR. TWICE DO EACH GEARS AT ONE TIME. WITH TRANSMISSION BACK IN PARK.CHECK TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL ON DIP STICK SHOULD BE AT THE FULL MARK IF NOT ADD A PINT AT A TIME TO GET TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL CORRECT. DONT OVER FILL.

My 93 grand voyager drives but wont shift in regular, drive drive 2, or low. what do you think the problem is?

have you checked the fluid level for the transmission and the condition of the fluid, sometimes the fluid and filter may need to be changed.if this is good then the problem is internal of the tranny and will have to be dissasembled to inspect for the worn out parts.you say it drives but won`t shift through the gears normally like it should.

Dodge intrepid new solinoid still won't shift the gear to next.

I believe these models have a transmission temperature sensor. If the transmission gets to hot it puts the car into limp mode until it cools down. A faulty sensor may be your problem. Also you may consider installing a transmission fluid cooler. Most cars have the transmission lines routed through the radiator to cool the fluid but radiators get hot. You want to keep the fluid as cool as possible. Ask your local parts supplier about a transmission cooler. There like 30 bucks but can save you a rebuild later :)

Transmission

When you change fluid and filter, if it doesn't seem to be be taking enough fluid, you need to check the return cooling line. Loosen the return line ( the back one ) and have someone start the vehicle and put it in gear. If the check valve by the radiator is not plug you will have fluid pumping out. THIS ONLY TAKES A SECOND OR TWO, so don't let it run too long. If no fluid comes out, then the check valve is pluged and you need to replace your cooling line from the radiator to the transmission. This a common problem that cause the transmission to strave for fluid and burns what is in it. Remember to always check fluid level in Neutral and use Plus4 transmission fluid. Good luck.
