Question about Hyundai Accent

The radiator, timing belt, & thermostat has been replaced. The A/C was causing the car to overheat. Now that the weather's getting cooler my heater is blowing out cold air. I have put $1000 into this car in the last few months. Help. Thanks

Did you flush out the heater core when you did the radiator.Im not sure how the air con could overheat your engine unless the pump was creating excessive drag.Is the heater tap and controls for the heater assembly working correctly?were the two heater hoses refitted correctly.have you checked that coolant is flowing freely through out the water system

Does a car run cooler without a thermostat?

No don't because when it closes it gives time for the coolant in the radiator to cool, and when the thermostat opens it would allow the cooled water to come into the block pulling down the temp. If you take it out your warm up time in cooler weather will cause you to run rich for a longer time before car warms up messing up your mileage too. Maybe better to just replace it, it may be going bad.

Can't use any vehicle without a thermostat

It runs cooler because you took heat out of motor,
as well as pressure

When you fix the head gasket or timing belt ,
you will be off & running

My Engineer removed my thermostat and said its not needed in our weather. that it will cause overheating when faced with traffic pressure

Hello ayo, that information is simply not true. I think the Honda engineers know more about their cars than yours does. If your cooling system is clean and all the componets are working as designed, the thermostat should not need to be removed. In fact, i have seen many cases that when the thermostat is removed, it causes the engine to run ever hotter and overheat. The reason being, with the thermostat out, the coolant is circulating faster, it passes through the radiator so fast that the air coming through the radiator fins don't have time to cool it before it re-enters the engine. If you are in extreme heat this is what i suggest you do. Thermostats come in different heat ranges, which means they open when the coolant reaches a certain temperature. You can replace yours with a cooler one. If you have a 200 degree install a 180, or one that is 15-20 degrees cooler. Always run a clean mixture of 50/50 coolant. keep your radiator clean inside & outside and the cooling fan blades clean and turning should have no problems.

On my 2001 olds aurora motor getting hot on cold days when the heater is on and coolant fan are not coming on

"on cold days" doesn't make sense to me. Anything that would cause the engine to overheat would be a problem in all weather.
Make sure the coolant level is correct. A stuck thermostat would prevent the cooler fluid in the radiator from circulating through the engine. Most likely cause. Could also be water pump. If it's not moving the fluid you would have the same issue.

My 740 1998 BMW overheats? I have replaced 3 blown out radiators, 2 thermostats, radiator sensor, changed coolant, and radiators cap. What could it be the problem?

3 blown out radiators....define this. My accord has 224,000 miles on it, same radiator, same clutch. And the beemer blows radiators? Makes 'em explode? Can't imagine anyone making a radiator that blows up all the time. You keep buying the same model?

Anyway, check: air gap in system, bleed the system while it heats up. Water pump. don't see it being replaced. the older ones had plastic impellers. is the auxillary fan working? It should come on all the time when the A/C is on. Clutch on belt driven fan ok? put in a 12 degree cooler thermostat and drill two 3/16" holes 180 degrees opposite each other.

Blown head gasket or two can cause overheating. Bad timing. did you change a good or bad radiator sensor? how'd you test it to determine it was bad? Don't just replace parts, determine they're bad. Replace enough parts and $14,000 later you should be ok.

If it rapidly overheats, that's generally a sign of a blown head gasket. Some shops have what is called a "sniffer" that they can check to see if you are getting exhaust fumes into the cooling system. You may want to check into that before you tear the engine down. Are you sure you have the thermostat in the right way? That will also cause rapid overheat, if it's backwards, the spring goes toward or into the engine.

The thermostat is behind the upper radiator hose...remove the upper radiator hose and loosen and then remove the two bolts on the outlet (where the upper radiator hose ends) The thermostat is inside that outlet...Another thing to check is if there is water in the oil...If there is water in the oil then it could have a head gasket problem..Did you ever replace the thermostat? If it is stuck then it would also cause overheating...Excessive exhaust backpressure because of a clogged catalytic converter could also cause overheating..Also check belt tension and condition. A loose belt that slips may prevent the water pump from circulating coolant fast enough and/or the fan from turning fast for proper cooling...Another thing it could be is a faulty Water pump -- Any wobble in the pump shaft or seepage would call for replacement. In some instances, a pump can cause an engine to overheat if the impeller vanes are badly eroded due to corrosion or if the impeller has come loose from the shaft. The wrong pump may also cause an engine to overheat. Some engines with serpentine drive belts require a special water pump that turns in the opposite direction of those used on the same engine with ordinary V-belts... Also check the Fan -- With mechanical fans, most overheating problems are caused by a faulty fan clutch, though a missing fan shroud can reduce the fan's cooling effectiveness by as much as 50% (depending on the fan's distance from the radiator) which may be enough to cause the engine to overheat in hot weather or when working hard.

2004 dodge ram is over heating, the thermostat and fan clutch have been replaced.Doesn't(over heat) in cool weather,but will in mod. weather if driven over 70mph or hilly terrain due or increase of rpm,and...

Water pumps can stall out, but do you have air trapped in system.
Had you recently had the system "open" to replace hose, thermostat, temp sensor. Some Ford and GM have a bleeder screw on a high point in cooling system to bleed out trapped air.

Check your trans fluid color. Since the trans cooler is built into radiator (automatics)

IF the engine is overheating the trans CAN overheat
IF the trans is overheating the engine CAN overheat

They share the same cooling source and trans fluid gets hotter than oil, but yet it has a wimpy cooler built into radiator. Maybe add trans oil cooler to system.

Also outside temp affects the cool down rate of the radiator, air trying to cool down hot radiator/engine is less effecting than cool air cooling hot radiator/engine
