1988 300zx 2+2 rough running, alot of exhaust smoke

for one thing...working on this sort of vehicle with just personal know how, is chancy. Sounds to me like the fuel injection system was totally out of synch, hence the smoking, knocking, etc. So, let's begin with a few issues.

Get a service manual on this, like Chilton's etc, study it thoroughly, then find a buddy with direct experience. These 300zx cars are finicky at best(they are called the Japanese Jaguars, due to their tempermental attitude).

And, then, maybe, you'll wind up with a serviceable vehicle.

Missing, think it needs an tune up. where is the fuel filter located? do i have to take it to a repair shop for the tune up? i am good with the older cars but this one is alot different

NO YOU DON'T! THE TUNE UP IS JUST AS EASY AS THE OLDER CARS, BUT YOU DON'T NEED TO SET THE POINTS, OR REPLACE THE CONDENSOR! JUST THE PLUGS, WIRES, DIST. CAP, AND ROTOR CAP! NEW AIR FILTER, PCV VALVE IF IT NEEDS IT! SOME OF THE FUEL FILTERS ARE LOCATED ON THE FRAME RAIL, ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE (LOOK THERE FIRST! IT WILL BE TOWARD THE DRIVESHAFT SIDE OF THE FRAME!

When i step on the gas pedel the car sometimes is jolty and shaky.

the engine could be missing the transmission can be low on fluild. The battery can be low on charge. the spark plugs can be inspected but if it;s been more than 50 thousand miles since they were changed and the car has more than 100 thousand miles a complete tune up is in order even if thats not whats wrong with it. The tune up parts can include the coils and the fuel injectors if the milage is high enought. This car is expensive to work on and hard to check if you don't work on hondas regularlly ( evevyday). You can save alot of money having a Honda aftermarket shop check your car and give an estimate. they cahrge for the estimate and it might run alot better just by them checking it. them get the repairs after your sure your car is'nt blown up or other (it's too old to spend that much money on) Blown heads and head gaskets can be fixed for alot of money but sometimes they'll smoke soon after the repars are made as the whole motor really needed to be rebuilt too.

Do i have freeze plugs on a 93 toyota corolla if so where are they at on the car.whats the easiest way to fix a head gasket. And how do i adjust a tie rod for alignment on my wheels. And how many freeze...

Freeze plugs will be very difficult to replace with the engine in the car. There is no reason to replace them unless the car has been run with plain water for some time, and they rust out, then the radiator gets clogged. The ONLY way to fix the head gasket is to remove the cyl head, and have a machine shop check it and repair any warpage. When the head is off, you may be able to better access any freeze plugs. The questions you are asking tell me you dont know much about engine work and you really need a repair shop to do all of your repairs. If they are not done correctly it will even cost more. Of course with a car that old, you may be better off with another one. Expect to pay 1500-2000 or more depending what else is wrong that you dont even know about yet, for all that work.

If you know very little about cars, find a qualified repair shop to check it out for you ASAP before damage is done to the engine, it may aready be week too late.

About the recall: Your Nissan dealership service dept should be able to look up your VIN# to see if the recall was done on your car. Mine did and it was. You don't even have to bring in the car. It might be just a phone call.
