O.k... you broke the key off in the cylinder... right... o.k... can you turn the key? it you can... usually you just put the key in the acc position... and just pulls out... now... some ignitions use a pin to keep the cylinder in... just hope you don't have one... because you'll have to pull off the steering wheel and the turn signal switch... just to get to it... them you'll have to get a small screw driver and remove the pin... not easy... any way... just use a big flat head screw driver... and ever so gently... pry out... when you get a new one... reverse the procedure to install... hope this helps man

2011 dodge ram the key will go into the ignition switch but is stuck in the acc will not turn on or off . can shift to any gear panel lights up just wont move on or off

Might have to disassemble the steering column and covers to access the ignition switch and replace. In some vehicles you will need to remove the driver airbag and steering wheel.

Make sure you follow safety procedures when doing so, specially when handling the airbag.

No brake lights when tilt steering is moved down. rear brake lights work with tilt steering up all the way! what is most likely source of this problem?

Broken wire in steering column in area that bends. Suggest just leaving tilt up all the time. Unless you or someone you know is mechanically inclined and very patient. If that is the case disassemble and slice brake.

Steering column is very loose; so do I replace it or can it be repaired without removing it? Where can I see the photos or diagrams of the steering column?

Would help to know what column. Is it the old round column???
Is it tilt and is it moving about where it tilts?
If yes, the column can stay in the vehicle. You will need some specific tools to do this. Amoung other tools you need, a steering wheel puller, Lock plate tool, possiby male torx bits/drivers (depending on year), for certain torx female socket and a tilt pin removal tool.

And it is somewhat a complex job for someone that has not done it before.

I changed the heater core in our 99 Blazer (S-10) and after getting the dash back in, I put the key in and turned it back to "Accessory" to turn the radio on - that worked (although thinking...

I makes no difference if the key is in the switch (stuck or not) when removing the switch. The process is the same. Once removed you may want to take the lock to a local locksmith and have them check it. It may be much cheaper to service the lock than replace it. Also if you do opt for a new lock take it to the locksmith and have it keyed to your old key so you don;t have to carry two keys (one for the ignition & one for the doors).

Key will turn to start in my 1994 K1500

This solution more than likely will require internal steering column inspection.First make sure the entire steering column is not loose. If you can move the steering wheel w/column from side to side or up and down more than 1/2 inch it's loose.Sometimes the key will engage while wiggling the steering column. There are 3 torx bolts deep inside the column that need tightening.Second, the Ignition key cylinder may be bad and need replacing

I need instructions on how to put a locksmart switch ingnition

Removal
  1. Disconnect battery ground cable. Remove the steering column shroud by removing the four or five self-tapping screws. Remove tilt lever (if so equipped).
  1. Remove instrument panel lower steering column cover.
  1. Disconnect the ignition switch electrical connector.
  1. Rotate ignition key lock cylinder to the RUN position.
  1. Remove the two screws retaining ignition switch.
  1. Disengage the ignition switch from the actuator.
Installation
  1. Adjust the ignition switch by sliding the carrier to the switch RUN position. NOTE: A new replacement switch assembly will be set in the RUN position as received.
  1. Check to ensure that the ignition key lock cylinder is in the RUN position. The RUN position is achieved by rotating the key lock cylinder approximately 90 degrees from the LOCK position.
  1. Install the ignition switch into the actuator. It may be necessary to move the switch slightly back and forth to align the switch mounting holes with the column lock housing threaded holes.
  1. Install retaining screws. Tighten to 5.6-7.9 Nm (50-69 lb-in).
  1. Connect electrical connector to ignition switch.
  1. Connect battery ground cable. Check ignition switch for proper function, including START and ACC positions. Also, make certain that the column is locked in the LOCK position.
  1. Install instrument panel lower steering column cover.
  1. Install the steering column trim shrouds and tilt lever (if so equipped).
