It may be your starter solenoid. The ignition key only engages the solenoid not the starter itself. If the solenoid is jammed it wont engage and switch power to the starter motor. you can easily check this by locating the heavy cable lugs on the solenoid (a metal tube about 1.5 inches in diameter normally mounted on or next too the starter motor) and shorting them with a wrench. You will get as spark but the starter should spin. If this happens you know it is the solenoid that is the problem.

You can sometimes free a stuck solenoid by tapping it gently with a hammer. However a more permanent solutionis to take it off and clean it, It may be jammed because the steel core is jammed in the coil. Fix this by cleaning. Otherwise the electrical contacts at the end may be damaged or dirty. Clean these up and make sure they contact properly. Use electrical switch cleaner.

Good luck

I have a 2004 Dodge Neon and I just replaced the battery and for some reason sometimes when I'm running a lot of errands when I turn it off it won't turn on again. It won't even make any noises...

Something is wrong in your start circuit. From battery to ignition switch, and ending at the starter solenoid. You would have to start checking for where power is lost between the switch and the starter. If you have power to the starter solenoid on the small wire at the starter (can check with a test light while someone holds the key in start), then the starter would need testing.

My 2003 Saab 9-5 Aero 4-cyl Turbo Won't start. However, I have power in car, lights windows and radio works. But it won't turn-over. It could be Starter or Starter Relay. I can't find out

Ok, those systems might still work because the not require as much energy as the starter. Check the Battery Voltage with a good Voltmeter. If below 12, there might be your problem!

Truck won't start

If the engine will not crank, it could be the starter, the neutral safety switch, or a bad connection.
A mechanic would check the starter circuit back to the key switch.

Car won't start, seems to have power, all lights working. when I turn the key nothing happens. this only happens sometimes

Could be a bad alternator.. It may not be holding charge. Or your starter could have failed.

Though I've had the same problem and it was a dead battery in my vehicle. Had enough power, but to keep the car on..

My BMW 1996 318i won't seem to start. Sometimes it would but most of the time I'm stuck trying start it, battery seems fine radio etc works, engine won't turn over though. Don't know what the problem

i see dash lights on when you try start engine.could have faulty starter relay or bad starter solenoid or starter bad.use a 12 volts test light see if power going to starter.if starter circuit okay could have theft security problems because BMWS did have theft security key ignition system back in 1994.

2008 malibu classic won't start

Grab a test light go down to the starter, hook to a good ground and probe the battery cable. If that has power probe the solenoid engage wire( its the little one) have a helper turn the key to start if that gets power replace the starter.

I have 1997 buick century and i was stopped at a light and the car inside lights started flashing and the car cut off and would not start back. radio was working and would not take a jump. does nothing...

Check for power at starter solenoid on switch side (purple wire) should have 12-12.6 volts if you have power to the solenoid and it won't do anything then the starter is bad.

Left a radio on, car would not star, but has lights and alarm work

will the starter do anything? click, chatter, etc., try turning on the headlamps and turn the key as if to start vehicle.,see if the headlights dim, then if so you have a good starting connection, then more than likely the battery needs a chg, radios and lights will light seemingly o.k. but a starter needs higher current to operate and this is where it will fool you, the only other thing might be is if you left the key on too long and the alarm sensed this and cut the starter power so as not to be stolen, just an idea
