Car jumps out of gear

I own a 2000 VW Cabrio 2.0 5 speed manual. The car suddenly started jumping out of gears. 1st & 3rd. Did not get any warning of any problems before hand. What could be the possible cause?

hi difficult to say each garage charges differently some are expensive some reseasonable alot will depend on the damage when they take the selectors housing off if as i suspect it is just the springs and balls it should not be that expensive as its not a gearbox strip down so i would think 2 hours tops to do the complete job but as i said without seeing if its damaged the selectors but i would be surprised balls and springs i would think £10 or less best of luck paul

On my 2000 dodge ram 1500 transmiton starts out in 1st will not shift in 2nd will jump in to 3rd when you get the speed up fast enough, or will start out in 3rd and goto OD fine

Hello,
problem is from the gear box. The gear box has developed a fault and that is why it
starts out in 1st will not shift in 2nd will jump in to 3rd . Also, have your gear oil check to be sure it is not short.
You need to take the Dodge to your mechanic before the problem gets worse. This is not a DIY (do it yourself) job.
If you don't take it to your mechanic on time, you might end up damaging the gear box which is expensive to replace. It is still repairable for now.

I hope the above is clear.

Regards.

Lost gears

I have the same problem with my 2001 volkswagen cabrio, but I know the solution.
You need a new clutch, or it will continue to slip.
If you cannot afford the clutch. You can "baby" the clutch by easing the clutch out, and eventually it will catch. (It should catch in a second or two.)

Gears change without a command from the driver.

There is a vacuum controlled selector valve on the selespeed alfa's it tricky to get at and expensive to replace. Have it sent to an alfa specialist or main dealer and they ll sort it

1st, 3rd and 5th Gears all pop out of place + Whining noise

hi my name is nathan .......now...... what it sounds like is #1 (I have to hold it in place til I get to second gear) that can be that your shift linkage is worn or out of adjustment, pilot bushing is Badly worn, shift fork, lever and or shaft is bent or worn,or your bell housing is misaligned or just loose...i have a few more ideas on why it is jumping out but those are the main ones now about your whining gear noise#2( The whining sound starts low pitched in each gear then gets higher pitched as the rev's increase) you may have worn gears maybe or it could be just that your transmission lubricant is incorrect or inadequate.

VW Golf 3 jumping out of gears

Sounds like a stripped reverse gear. And for the second gear probally need a new gear (1st 2nd) and the syncros with a new hub. If too much metal from the gears has already made it's way around in the bearings through the transmission oil you might be looking at a new transmission. The Golf 3 generation had many problems with reverse gears. Sorry to be the one to tell you.
