Mileage? O2 sensor? Scanner - 35.00 at Advance/Auto Zone - can be a big help accessing trouble codes.

1998 ford explorer/engine stalls

You can not diagnose what?

You have Preventative Maintenance that may
need to be done & should have a log book you
can check

You can look at scan tool data & road test

You can component test to find problems

You do not need a check light or codes to
have problems

1998 vehicle--air in-- air out--that is a 17 year old vehicle
How about the exhaust converter-consider that when your
doing your testing

Will a 1997 ford explorer computer work in a 1998 ford explorer the motor is a 1998 but the transmission is a 1997

Generally speaking, no.
The computers are pre-programed at the factory for each year and engine-trans combo.
Not to say one truck won't run with the other computer, but the check engine light may stay on and performance may suffer.

1998 ford explorer only starts with gas pedal to the floor and stalls when put in gear

Had this issue with a 2000 V-6 explorer. Check engine light was not on but I thought I would see what was going on as I kept feathering the engine running, hooked up the scanner and ran live data stream. When I got to engine coolant temp. it was reading 8 degree Fahrenheit and only went up to 16 degrees. Since you have to remove the upper intake to get to the engine coolant temperature sensor, I replaced the sensor and the sender. Truck has been running great.....

any time the check engine light is flashing it is the on-board computer telling you that the engine is misfiring, i think i would take it back to whom done the tune-up sounds like they may have cracked a spark plug or damaged a plug wire when they tuned it up.

Engine light is on, flashes when driving above 100 Km

stop by local parts store (Autozone,Advance, etc) and have them do a free fault code test. They can print out a list of faults and clear the codes

Its 11 yrs old.. Thats a lotta carbon build up in the converter.. Its time for it to go bad.. The converter is basically an exaust filter.. so its probably fully contaminated..Get it replaced and you'll get better exaust flow and better gas mileage.. Thanx
