Question about 2001 Ford Escort ZX2

1 Answer

Loud noise I turn on the heater/defogger while raining, heater working fine for a while then smoke started to come under the hood and a strong smell, also some noise which progressed in pitch; made it home fine. I just drove the car with the heater off and no apparent noise, probably just a bit but not notisable. Is my heater Assembly, heater core, Vacum motor bad and need replacement? Can I drive the car with heater/defogger off? Will appreciate some help. Robert murillorobert@hotmail.com

It sounds like the blower motor for the heater is shot, either bearings in the fan or electrical melt down. It's ok to drive it w/ fan off, but if u need your defroster you'll be in trouble, have a cloth ready in case u need to wipe condensation off the windows so u can see. You'll have to have the blower motor checked out to see if it's the bearings, if it is u can have it replaced. countrycurt0

it may not be anything to do with oil, it could be that you have a coolant leak that needs to be checked out. white smoke is usually an indication of coolant more so than oil.

Heater and aircon not working, loud rattling noise and smoke from vent, now not power to fan

It appears your fan itself burned out. When a field coil of an electrical fan burns out it usually makes a lot of smoke. The noise could be something that fell in there that stopped the fan from turning freely. I can imagine it heated up under the strain and burned out.

When you restarted it was burnt out so hence no noise and no fan.
The smell of the smoke should also be clue. Electrical field coils burning has an awful soury type of smell.

Gas Smell when heater turned on

When the heater is turned on, it is drawing in air from the cowl at the bottom of the windshield outside the car. If your smelling gas when you turn it on, it would suggest to me that there may be a fuel leak under the hood. A lot of Honda's have the fuel filter under the hood against the firewall. Open the hood, and see if the gas smell is any stronger, or any gas smell at all for that matter. I would strongly recommend getting the car checked as soon as possible, if you can find the source of the smell yourself.

98 gs300 loud screeching noise that last for about 5-10 seconds

The only four rotating items under the hood are
engine
power steering pump
A/C compressor
and smog emission pump.
==== I would check the fluid level on the power steering first. Check for pink fluid leak on the ground,
==== Check the A/C system with the wheel turn to one side and APPLY ALL LOADS.
Example: high beam on,A/C max, radio on and deforster on.
This will give you system a stress test.
All eyes on the pully and locate to part that generate the loud screeching noise.
My bet is on the power steering pump.

Please post more info on the comment window.
I will follow up on it.

Cold weater start problem. Oil smoke in from the heater vent.

The same problem happened to me and it turned out to be my heater core.

Normally smoke will come from the heater core when it needs to be replaced.

Also the smell is most likely anti-freeze and and you normally smell it when your
engine is running warm or hot.

Check your coolant levels to be sure. and the hoses leading to your Heater Core

heater cores for that vehicle normally run $180 - $230 and you need to remove your
entire Instrument Panel (IP) (Dashboard) to replace it.

I hope this helps!
