HVAC duct No matter where I set the HVAC airflow dial, the air does not come out of the defroster vent onto the windshield. It only comes out of the upper dashboard vents. How do I repair this?

This is caused by a loose of vacuum to the mode control switch, the vacuum line runs through the firewall on the passenger side near the kick pad trim.

Air conditioning will not switch from defrost vents

Vacuum control motors are used to position these airflow control doors.
SECTION 412-01: Air Distribution and Filtering 2000 Expedition/Navigator Workshop Manual DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION Procedure revision date: 06/17/1999 Air Distribution There are two sources of air available to the air distribution system:
  • outside air
  • recirculated air
Recirculated air is only used during MAX A/C, AUTOMATIC (if equipped with EATC) and OFF modes.
Air distribution within the vehicle is determined by the function selector switch position, if equipped with manual A/C, or is controlled by the electronic automatic temperature control system in the AUTOMATIC mode but can be overridden by the driver if desired. Airflow control doors are used to direct airflow within the heater air plenum chamber. Vacuum control motors are used to position these airflow control doors.
The air distribution system is designed to provide airflow from the defrost nozzle when no vacuum is applied to any of the vacuum control motors. This is done to prevent a situation where defrost cannot be obtained due to a system vacuum leak.
Air enters the passenger compartment from the:
  • instrument panel A/C registers.
  • heater outlet floor duct.
  • windshield defroster hose nozzle.
  • side window demisters.
  • rear seat airflow duct (if equipped).
Passenger compartment air is exhausted from the vehicle through open windows or cab air vents.

Cant get enough airflow to defrost windshield fans blowing max

Either the damper door is not redirecting air flow OR your air duct clogged with debris. If you get great air volume thru all the other vents I would believe the problem is with your damper not functioning properly.

I changed the battery on 2006 Trailblazer SS. Now I can only get AC from my windshield and floor vents. Nothing from the dash vents. Also the temp control only gives coldest temp. I have checked fuses...

once you disconnect the battery your body control module loses power and memory you have to get some one with a scanner with reprogramming capabilities and have the computers reset ,dealer?

My heat or AC (defrost as well)does not come out of the windshield vents or the foot vents. No matter what setting you have it on, it comes out of the face vents only. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Mode motor problem or door stuck inside hvac box. Could also be the heater cotrol head. This might be worth the 1 hour diag to find out.

HVAC vent selector does not function. Air flow is

THe blend door seems to be stuck. When you change settings from defrost to floor air or, vent, the blend door opens and closes directing the air to the place you want it to go to. I have had some success spraying a lubricating oil such as WD40 under the dash on the blend door. You need to get under the dash with a flashlight to locate it. It looks like a flap. Spray it with a couple of shots of the WD40. Go easy on the spraying as you may be inhaling the fumes. Keep the doors and windows open to minimize the fumes. Wait about 1/2 hour and try the A/C functions. (defrost, floor, vent air)

Air won't switch to defrost vents

This system works with vacuum control doors. If you have a vacuum hose off under your hood it will cause this problem. Look on the passenger side near the evaporator - there should be a little round plastic bulb looking device - make sure it has vacuum to it. Also, check for other vacuum leaks in that area.
