Question about 1998 Plymouth Grand Voyager
I had a new battery installed in the car yesterday. Today I took it for a smog test and it failed. The three areas of failure are OBD catalyst,
Oxy Snsr Heat and OBD exhst gas. The guy who ran the test told me it
probably was because I had a new battery installed and the car had not yet
gone through a "driving cycle" to, for lack of a better word, reset. The dealer
told me I would have to come in for him to check out, the DMV Emissions Test Lab said I could come down and get a printout of what to do (a sequence of things) but I don't have time right now. Does anybody know what the driving cycle sequence is for this car? Will it correct on its own?
If so, how long will it take? This is one annoying problem and I can't believe
there is nothing written down anywhere on it. Taking it to the dealer or elsewhere is a hassle. If anybody knows anything about this please respond. Thanks.
Hi what is meant by driving cycles are when you drive the car in all conditions accelerating stoping idling its a full range of what anormall driving run if you change a battery what you need to do is drive it in as many situations as metioned above so your ecu will learn what to do take it for a run between 50-60 mph for 30 secs take your foot of the acclerator see if it stalls if so do it again if after 3-4 times it doesn,t run correctly there is a problem with the sensors but usually sorts itself out i have done a job on a car in the afternoon and it takes till the following afternoon before it has relearned its setting be carefull while driving as the car can be unpredicitable stalling idling to fast ect but if it was ok before you changed the battery it will be ok yates210456
