A timing belt is pretty much a timing belt, they are all made out of rubber. It is usually that each manufacturer has a different price and alot of times one ends up paying fr a name. but if you are really concerned get one that is priced in the midle, and you shouldn't loose any sleep over it.

Hi, i have a 2002 Ford Taurus that will stall or stall when idling or especially if temperature is hot or car has been driving for over 15 minutes. I had one place tell me that is was my computer in my car...

It is possible that your computer is bad, but there are a few other things you could try before spending that kind off money. First I would try a new throttle control sensor. If your throttle control sensor is bad your car will not ideal or in some cases it won't even run. It is also possible that you have a bad fuel injector. Neither a throttle control sensor nor an injector should cost you more then $150. I would recommend that you take your car to a different shop and get a second opinion, and tell them what you think my be wrong with it. If it turns out that the computer is actually bad I would recommend that you go to a salvage yard and get a different one. You can get good used parts there at a fraction of the price. I don,t think you would spend more then $250 on a computer if you go that way. I hope this helps you out and if you have any other questions fell free to ask.

How much does a timing belt cost? and what could I expect to pay the mechanic on a 2002 Kia Rio Cino

The timing belt is not the big cost,if the belt has broken while you where driving the car the you may need to spend up to $3000 dollars to repair the damage caused by a broken belt.If your belt is not broke and you have over 50000 miles then get it replaced, expect to pay about $600-$900.This is dependant of labour rates and problems occurred during the repair, your price may be lower.

Have 62,000 miles and am being told i need 60,000 mile service $500 and timing belt replaced another $500. this seems a little excessive?

Timing belt can be done cheaper than that, shop around - the 60,000 mile service is a FULL service, all fluids are changed, everything is tested - it is very important, probably the most important service a car will have - but $1000 is extortion! - shop around, ask your friends where they got the best deal on servicing.
I'd say $50 for the belt, $100 for the fluids oil etc, $300 labor charge - servicing is a striaghtforward task - empty old fluid, throw away oil filter, swap cambelt, fit new filter, refill the fluids, run diagnostics, test drive, back to customer, shouldn't cost $1000 for $150 of parts/fluids and 3 hours work...

2000 VW 2.0 Beetle - Manual say not to replace timing belt?

General rule on most cars with a timing belt is change somewhere between 80K and 120K. On some cars, failure of timing belt will destory the engine.

If car is only worth $2500, and labor (parts are cheap on this usually) is $1000, if you can't do it yourself, need to decide if you risk it.

Are you willing to throw away the car when the timing belt breaks? Or spend the $1000, and have some other failure that renders the car useless 5000 miles later?

This is really a financial decision you have to make. If engine blows, you may be able to get $500 for it from junkyard, and you still have your $1000 saved from not changing the timing belt.
