I have the same problem. I took it to Auto zone for free and they stated it was my gas cap. I replaced it and was told the light will go off within a few days. it has been 2 days now and the light is still on.

EGR Valve needs replaced, because my gas cap light has been on forever even after replacing it and found out later it is more than likely the EGR Valve which when it screws up causes misfiring and poor performance down the road if not fixed soon enough and also leaves you with very poor gas mileage. The cost of the part ranges from $150 to $270. On the other hand it could also be Ignition Coil which costs significantly less but less likely for this to be the actual problem. Its cost is about $80 for the part.

Not sure what you are trying to do.
If the cylinder is not firing you would need to figure out if you are missing spark to the plug or fuel to the injector.
After the problem is fixed you can have someone scan the computer and clear the trouble code to turn the check engine light off.

Engine light came on 2005 pontiac grand prix 130000 miles owners manual said bad gas or emission system did diagnostic check thru onstar they said cooling system. gauges are normal heat range

Is there a way to get OBD codes for the problem? You can usually get them read at a local auto store or repair shop. Most likely if you are not experiencing noticable problems it is probably just emissions, but I would get your code read just in case.

Cant find crankshaft sensor location on my 1993 pontac grand prix se 2door 3.1 v6

It is on the back side of the engine block a little past the center. You can't see worth a s#*t but can access it by feel by reaching under & around the alternator or remove alternator to make it easier. You'll need an 8mm socket on a 1/4" drive ratchet & some patience but it can be done.

An emission control sys. indicator has arised (Grand vitara 2005)

To know what it exactly is, you need a code scanner hooked to it.
If there is an autozone near you, go there, tell them the engine light is on and you need the code, takes about 30 seconds. They don't charge, where other places do. Without that code you'll be replacing things you don't need to. There is other sensors in the emission system other than the 02 sensors.

Non emission issue

Your vehicle is sensing some sort of non-engine fault. In most cases, I have found it to be a burned up light bulb.
