Question about 2003 Volkswagen New Beetle Convertible

COVErt Top stops before it is all the way down

I have a 2004 VW convt. The power top goes down and is completly folded and ready to lock into place so the wings can cover up the covt. workings. Then it stops will not pull down to fully lock. Leave it this way for 10 minutes press the covt. top button the top locks down and the wings close. For those 10 minutes the top will not go up or down. After the top goes down 1st time of the day it will work all day long just fine 1 stop and top up or 50 stops and top up. But the first time every day you gotta drive around 10 minutes with bells and buzzers and your wings up.

Try using the reset proceedure of simply turning the car on and use the all windows up and down switch on the driver side door. This is used when the battery is replaced. It might re-set your motor.

HARD TOP WILL NOT GO DOWN. HARD TOP WILL STOP MID WAY THROUGH THE PROCESS.

Hi. There are 2 flaps, one left, one rights the fold back when the roof is retracted. they are triangular in shape, and fold in half just behind wher the rear windows should be. check that these have folded back, it is normaly the right side that does not fold. reposition this flap and if the roof works the a simple string correction will be needed.

I have a 2004 new beetle convertible and when I put the soft top down, the car starts beeping when I excelerate and the roof image where the temperature is supposed to be. I do not think it can go down any...

The top on you car is not completely folded back, once the roof appears to be seated keep holding the open button until you hear another click, If this doesn't work it means the roof parked sensor is not working which unfortunately will mean a trip to the dealer.

Top worked fine yesterday but today tried to let down only clicked

It is a hydraulic pump that applies pressure to the 2 hydraulic pistons to raise & lower the top. So, check for something obstructing movement first.

The convertible top:
  • is motor-driven.
  • requires parking brake engaged to complete circuit for operation.
  • is equipped with a back window glass (42006) . The back window glass is permanently attached to the folding top back window curtain (52500) and cannot be opened.

VISUAL INSPECTION CHART Mechanical Electrical
  • Damaged fluid reservoir.
  • Damaged folding top hydraulic cylinders .
  • Damaged folding top motor upper and lower hose .
  • Damaged convertible top regulator.
  • Parking brake not engaged.
  • Open power distribution box circuit breaker CONV TOP (30A), fuse junction panel Fuse 1 (15A).
  • Circuitry open/shorted.
  • Damaged convertible top switch.
  • Damaged raise/lower relay .
  • Damaged folding top hydraulic lift motor and plate kit .

I have a 1988 vw cabriolet, it of course has a manual top, and it goes about 2/3 rds of the way then it wont budge anymore. ive got it down before, then the next day i tried to put it down and it wont go...

Make sure that as the top is folding backwards, the soft part of the top is not getting stuck in the hinges or between the support bars. If it is folding improperly, there might be a piece of the top that is keeping the rest from folding as it is supposed to. My father had this problem on his Mazda Miata once, but resolved it by paying closer attention when he opened it (he usually opened it from the driver's side, but once it started getting stuck, he had to walk around the car and make sure the passenger side was folding properly, too).
If it is not part of the soft top that is jamming you up, check the hinges all the way around. If one of them has a loose screw or broken rivit or something, that can jam it up too. Also, while the top is open, check the storage space that the top folds into -- if there is something in there, it could block the top from having the space to fold into.

How to put top down 1998 BMW Convertible

depends on what type of top you have (full power or power assisted).

if power assisted, then release the latches on the inside where the top meets the windshield, then hit the button on the lower dash (its near the button for the heated seats & traction control) and give it a little push with your hand to start it folding. it has a picture of a side window & top on it. pushing it one way lowers the top. you have to be in park (or drive with foot on brake) to lower it. hold the switch down, the side windows will lower a bit and the top will begin to move. keep holding it till the top tucks under the boot and the windows begin to go back up, then release it. if the light on this button is not flashing when you release it, then the top is tucked away properly. if still flashing, then keep it depressed until the top folding sequence is complete.

if a fully automatic top (you will not have latch releases on the top where it meets the windshield), then simply hit the button as described above. no need to push on the top during the beginning sequence. keep holding it until the windows begin to go back up, then release it.

for both, watch the top as it tucks into the boot. sometimes if the top is not properly aligned, the top cloth may not tuck correctly and may require some help from you. the sequence can be stopped any time, but the red light on this button will flash.

to put it back up, simply hit the button in the opposite manner and the sequence will start with the rear boot lifting up first. fully auto tops will lock automatically to the windshield. power assisted tops will require to lock the top. if red light on this button still flashes when released, then the sequence is not complete or has encountered an error.

hope this worked for you.
