Car: 1993 Ford Escort 1.6LX
The car alarm will not disarm if I open the door from the driver side (i.e. the red light keeps flashing and the alarm
with sound if I open the door). To disarm, I need to turn unlock the door from the passenger side or turn the key once
to unlock it.
It seemes to have suddenly developed this annoyance one morning. Have I put the car alarm into some sort of "test mode"
by accident? If so how do I fix it?
Many thanks if you can help!

Re: Ford Escort Alarm - Annoying Problem!
It seems that the contact circuit in the driverside door is the problem, it's obviously not the alarm itself others wise the same thing would occure on the passengerside. you have to remove the door panel on the driverside and inspect the wires in that circuit for corrosion which would cause no current to pass between the by pass switch the arms or disarms the alarm. please rate this

Get in the car, shut the door, and insert key in ignition.
Turn the key to the RUN position (NOT start, but the position the key is in when the car is running. You DON'T want to start the car).
Turn key off.
Repeat this 10 times quickly (ON, OFF, ON, OFF, etc)
Many alarm systems this is at least one way to reset or over-ride the alarm.
usualy there is a switch on the driver and passener side, try disarming by unlocking drivers door with the key to disarm the factory alarm, or the passenger door. this should turn off the alarm if it is not aftermarket. the factory alarm will arm any time the door is locked by key or power door lock. good luck
Is it factory alarm remote if so some times u can take driver side door put Key in turn left n right then it go off if. Not then start car up for a minute let it. Reset if aftermarket alarm then pull fuse under Hood userly they have it running to battery
this is due to a bad switch in the drivers door, when you use the key to unlock the door it should shut down alarm, also the alarm module may be going bad, the alarm is setting itself on, when ever you lock the door the alarm turns on, you will need to replace the switch on the drivers door or unlock the passenger side door that also has a switch that disarms it, the switch is on the lock itself, thats the problem you are having , good day,
I don't see where you have any choice but to unlock the doors with your key. If your fobs have good batteries, then the problem is with the alarm system, which can't be accessed until you unlock the doors. I'm not sure what the procedure is on your particular alarm, but with most alarms, you disarm the system by first turning the key in the door lock to the left and then to the right to unlock the door. Turning the key to the left first, disarms the system. Some aftermarket alarms will have a button hidden under the driver side dash that will disarm the alarm.
