You will need a power steering pump pulley puller. Check with your local parts store to see if they rent or sell one.

SOURCE: removing water pump on 97 grand prix gt. Power

no you have to go thru the holes in the front of the power steering pulley. Usually a ratchet with a deep 13mm socket will do to remove the 2 bolts located at 12 and 6 o'clock then you will be able to move it out of the way

SOURCE: power steering pump

The pump has to be removed from under the vehicle by removing the exhaust system from the flex bracket and moving it to as far left of the vehicle as possible..remember you have to remove the splash shield that protects the engine components first...then remove all associated bolts, hoses (plug them so they won't drip) and remove the pump from the vehicle..that it.

SOURCE: Camaro Water Pump!!!!

usually, the socket wrench would fit in the holes of the steering pulley. that is what they are for.
the steering pulley has three holes and you can adjust it so that the sockets could go through it and loosen one of the bolt that is holding the power steering pulley.

SOURCE: power steering pump leaking

Dear bigwood_84, Sat 02-21-2009 12:46pm EST (USA)

Try a can of "Bars' Leak" for power steering leaks 1st available at your local auto parts store. It's cheap and can't hurt but may fix your problem!

Advanced Auto Parts has a tool lending policy and a lot of good advice!

SOURCE: removing power steering pump

To replace the power steering pump, proceed as follows:

  1. Disconnect the power steering return hose from the remote reservoir or pump. Allow the fluid to drain from this hose into a drain pan. Discard the used fluid.
  2. Loosen the bracket or belt tension adjusting bolt, and the pump mounting bolt.
  3. Loosen the belt tension until the belt can be removed. On some cars, it is necessary to lift the vehicle on a hoist and gain access to the power steering pump from underneath the vehicle.
  4. Remove the hoses from the pump, and cap the pump fittings and hoses.
  5. Remove the belt tension adjusting bolt and the mounting bolt, and remove the pump.
  6. Check the pump mounting bolts and bolt holes for wear. Worn bolts must be replaced. If the bolt mounting holes in the pump are worn, pump replacement is necessary.
  7. Reverse steps 1 through 5 to install the power steering pump. Tighten the belt as described previously, and tighten the pump mounting and bracket bolts to the manufacturer's specifications. If o-rings are used on the pressure hose, replace the o-rings. Be sure the hoses are not contacting the exhaust manifold, catalytic converter, or exhaust pipe during or after pump replacement.
  8. Fill the pump reservoir with the manufacturer's recommended power steering fluid, and bleed air from the power steering system as described earlier.

I can't say for sure but it could be the tensioner pully. I don't think you should be able to move it side to side. That would indicate that the bearing is worn.

Belt problem after replacing power steering pump and pully 98ram

If the tensioner can be moved by hand the lock down bolt is not doing its job. Try to tighten the bolt with the belt pulled tight and then release. If the belt loosens the bolt is not working as it should. Make sure theres a lock washer (split lock washer) between the bolt head and the post.

Serpintine belt routing 95 dodge spirit

moz-screenshot.jpgYou can find one at autozone.com, you may have to sign up for a free account, but you can view the job diagram there. It looks like for a 6 cylinder, there are two belts, one goes from the crank pully around the water pump then the alternator, and the other goes around the crank shaft then the power steering pump and then the air compressor pully. The power steering and air is a "v" belt and the other is a ribbed serpentine belt. they both just wrap around no wierd routing. the only thing I do not see is the idler pully or tensioner pullys.

Surpentine belt.

depends on which v8 you have....the 4.7 the routing is as follows it goes under the waterpump pully over the alternator down and around the power steering pumpto the crank...it goes under the bottom of the crank to the idler pully.the flat side of the belt goes ver the idler then around the automatic tensioner to the ac compressor.
on the 5.2 and 5.9 it routes starting at the idler pully the flat side goes undr the idler the up to the ac compressor around the compressor and down to the power steering pump ... around power stering pump to waterpump where the flat side is against waterpump pully around water pump down and around crank up it automatic tensioner....around tensioner and up and over alternator
