I have a 00 Alero. Is it much of a problem going thru the steering column. This is just a pain in the ??? having to wait 10 mintues, and I notice that it only happens in the winter (cold), in the summer time, my security light stayed on, and always cranked up. Now that its cold now, it never wants to start. I really don't care about the security light staying on after the wire is cut.

You can not remove the system. It is intergrated in to the powertrain control module, the body control module and the theft module. It as is tied in to you factory door locks. You can bypass it and disable it but you cant remove it without causing alot of problems

Ok get acess to the wiring under the steering column. There is a group of 3 small wires in a small wire loom. They are black white and yellow. Start the car with the key and cut the yellow wire the theft lite will come on and stay on but the system will be disabled. If there is a small metal strip in the key its even easier so let me know.

2004 Alero Olds, How do I by pass the broken security

If you have PassLock (not PassKey III) It's actually easier to just fix it. It's usually just a back lock cylinder case.

I have a 2003 olds alero with a 3400 new fuel pump crank and cam sensor and pass lock is not flashing turns over but will not start can anyone help

Reset the security by turning the ignition switch on(not start) for 20 minutes, not less, more is ok. Turn the switch off, then attempt to start. If its a security issue, this should cure it.

02 olds alero no start system shut down

Where did you try to by-pass at , with the 2000 ohm resistor ? Is the SECURITY light lit on the instrument cluster ? Probably has another problem other then the key . The anti-theft system in your vehicle can not be by-passed by using a resistor .

The Passlock™ System is provided in order to prevent vehicle theft if the ignition lock cylinder is forced to rotate or the ignition switch is operated while separated from the ignition lock cylinder case. If starting is attempted without authorization from the Passlock™ System, the powertrain control module (PCM) will disable engine starting. Start disable may be in the form of fuel disable or starter disable, depending on engine application.

Your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop . Before you render it unfixable . (cost to much )

How do you put the resistor in the passlock system on a Oldsmobile Alero

You don't say if the security light is lit ? Is it ? If not , it's not a anti-theft system problem . An the passlock system on your vehicle the passlock sensor is part of the ignition lock cylinder . No resistor ! If the security light is lit you need to have it check for codes . There are a number of DTC'S that can set .
DTC B2947
DTC B2948
DTC B2957
DTC B2958
DTC B2960
DTC B3031
DTC B3033
DTC P1626
DTC P1630
DTC P1631
DTC P1632

The Passlock™ system is provided in order to prevent vehicle theft if the ignition lock cylinder is forced to rotate or the ignition switch is operated while separated from the ignition lock cylinder case. The body control module (BCM) provides security system sensor power and low reference for the Passlock™ sensor. The BCM also measures the security system sensor voltage.
When the correct key is used to start the vehicle, a magnet on the lock cylinder passes close to the Passlock™ sensor within the ignition lock cylinder case. The magnet activates the security hall effect sensor in the Passlock™ sensor which completes a circuit from the security sensor signal circuit through a resistor to the security sensor low reference circuit. The resistance value will vary from vehicle to vehicle. The BCM will measure the voltage on the security sensor signal circuit and compare this voltage to a previously learned voltage. If the voltage measured is within the valid range, the BCM will send a class 2 message to the powertrain control module (PCM) to enable vehicle starting. If the voltage measured is not within the valid range, a class 2 message will be sent to the PCM to disable starting of the vehicle.

How to reset anti-theft on a 2000 alero

The security, antitheft or lock picture/icon is a visual indication that something in the car's antitheft system is failing. In most GM cars and trucks there is a hidden system that most people are unaware even exists. From the moment you put your key in the ignition, there begins a constant line of communication between your key's security chip or transponder, to the ignition's lock cylinder, and then to the car's TDM (Theft Deterrent Module). These 3 parts are in CONSTANT communication. If the key is in the ignition, then these parts are sending signals to each other. The security light illuminates when that signal gets broken, even just for a second. When the signal breaks, the car misinterprets this as an attempt at theft and goes into antitheft mode. The car thinks its being stolen or hotwired because it is not getting that signal from YOUR specific key. This is why the security light turns on and shuts down your vehicle. This link explains it pretty well.

I just replaced the starter in my 2000 olds alero and now it wont start it keep flashing thinks it is benig can I fix this

Most likely you replaced the starter because it wouldn't crank over. If this is correct and the security light was flashing before replacing the starter, then most likely you have a problem with the pass-lock system. If your ignition cylinder is located in the dashboard, you will need to remove it and replace the passlock housing.

1999 Alero anti lock brake light

u can have the light scanned by autozone free of charge. Also in new york state the anti lock system is not part of inspection and can not be a failable issue. Ofcourse your state may be differant. Also the abs light will not turn on for brake pads.. Most common on the olds alero is a bad wheel bearing. The abs sensor is built into all the wheel bearings. The code that u can get out of the car will even tell you what wheel it is that is causing he light to come on. Unless ofcourse its not a wheel bearing and its a internal abs system issue. Let me know what the code is and I will try to get you a pinpoint place to look....
