Question about 2003 Jaguar X-Type

1 Answer

Losing Anti-Freeze I have a 2003 Jaguar X- type 2.5 liter. I am losing anti freeze, about a quart a week. There is no fluid on the ground and no smoke coming out of the exhaust. The Heating and A/c are working fine.

Hi get it prussure tested if you are correct in saying there is no sign of a leak or signs of water in the exhaust then you will have a leak and what is happening is it is evaporating as it leaks hence on sign of leak usually theseleaks are found where hose are near something hot example exhaust manifold the pressure tester will make the leak visable yates210456

Smell of coolant and smoking

smoke from exhaust could be cracked head or blown head gasket but normally when one of these two things happen it runs crappy if it runs at all smoke from under the hood you may have a pin hole in your radiator or hose or even heater core put some stop leak in it watch for puddle of anti-freeze under the hood and on the ground keep a close eye on your tempature gage and a close eye on you anti-freeze levels and dont add fluid when the motor is hot this will crack your heads good luck.

Coolant low is displayed. What type/brand coolant. Car was smoking.

If you are smokeing white smoke out your exhust and you are low on anti freeze do not drive this vehicle any further you have a bad head gasket or a cracked head either way it needs major engine work.If you drive it further you will destroy the engine. check your oil if you see white stuff on dip stick if you do your anti freeze is now in your oil .have serviced by a compatent mechanic.

We have a 2003 gmc Envoy V6 4X4 Automatic has 108000 miles on it i see that the hose was replaced going to the radiator we smell antifreese under the hood and having to put anti freeze in the over flow...

Well, the fluid from the radiator could be evaporating. Is the upper hose solid when you shut it off?

If you 'smell' antifreeze there 'is' a leak.

Is the fluid 50/50 strength antifreeze to water?

Usually, if there is a leak, it will drip to the ground or come out of the tailpipe (in the case of a bad head gasket).

It is not unusual to have a car with 108,000 mi. to have a leak somewhere.

Keep looking and topping off the fluid.

1998 jaguar xj8 consumes anti-freeze

First thing to check is the radiator cap seal. If it is not sealing properly, the water will boil off and then soon, the anti freeze will begin to disappear. Clean the metal surfaces and gasket and make sure it is tight ---or buy a new cap --but make sure there is a seal. If that doesn't cure it, you may have a head gasket leak that blows the coolant (anti freeze) into one cylinder. If that cylinder is tight, the coolant will only evaporate in the heat and be blown out the exhaust --not entering the oil pan. Check your exhaust when you start up. You may see white smoke, or even liquid, exiting the exhaust pipe, indicating a blown head gasket (then engine may run rough, too). If this is the case, there are reasonably inexpensive cures for this in some cases.

Anti freeze loss

Check all radiator hoses and the radiator itself for small leaks. You could try an over the counter stop leak to see if that helps. On big leaks this is not recomended , but in small leaks it could svae your car from losing any more anti freeze.
