Have the car scanned by a transmission shop for transmission related fault codes (not all generic scanners will read trans codes) you may have a bad solonoid in the trans valve body?
REVERSE INHIBIT If the vehicle exceeds 6 mph (10 km/h) in the forward direction, and Reverse (R) gear is selected, the EAT ECU switches on the low clutch timing solenoid valve in the valve block, which drains the fluid from the reverse clutch. This function prevents the gearbox from engaging reverse gear when the vehicle is moving in a forward direction, so preventing damage to the gearbox We Are Here To Help !Donald Deane MCSE,ASE,CPO
quite possible you have damaged front pump in gearbox when reinstalling gearbox ,does it engage reverse .........if it doesnt more than likely the torque converter has moved forward out of the gearbox oil pump ,thus not creating any pressure for gearbox to operate
yor car has got the troublesome jatco gearbox. you need to get someone with a code reader to get the fault codes out of the tcm {transmission control module} may be just low fluid level or selector cable jgate problem but more than likely the box has failed and needs replaced/repaired
Well in a auto gear box you have in the pan on g/box a filter and a forward oil pump and a reverse pump also a set of bands forward and a reverse plus a valve body assy which has a load of small pistons and springs and oil ways ,but by the sound of your problem is that the forward pump isent going through the body valve for some reason so its taking a short cut and bypassing 1,2,3, and trying to to top first.
So sorry to tell you that the answer to your problem is you have to go to a Auto Matic gearbox shop and they will have to fix it ORget a second hand box and fit it yourself.
Let me know how you go. are you on Skype Ron
