I have 2001 auto transmission spectra, its accelaaration is very poor. also its speed start to drop at 5th gear, however it can maintain speed at 4th gear. also some times its engine check light comes on and with that light my car starts rough running. request for solution.
Sounds like your tranny is going out. what i would do is take it to like auto zone and have them do a check on the cars on board comp. if anything is wrong with the car it will give you a error code and a print out what the causes. write back with that code and we can help you better. :)

This indicates a problem in the transmission control module as it is not activating the solenoids/servos and consequently the sensors that read turbine speed and output shaft speed are not reading the correct difference of the two units . Have this checked out at an accredited auto transmission shop.
First check the transmission MIL code , that will tell you if it is the Over Drive lock solenoid mal functioning , Do a tranny oil change with filter ,then replace fifth gear pressure solenoid , when you are there already .
Assuming this is a manual shift transmission then 5th has probaly melted due to no lube.5 th gear is smaller on the countershaft and does not dip into the sump as far.So it is the first to loose oil when trans is low.If this is a 5 speed auto like on the 04 up accords and odessy vans then clutches are most likely damaged.Either way you are gonna need transmission repair.Good luck!
Shop one of your pick and pull yards for a tranny. You will diffenatly have to pull it out to fix the gear, unless it is just in the shifter which won't press the shifter fork in the transmission far enough press the 5th gear into mesh(or into gear).
Sounds more like it might be in the gear shifter. Linkage worn or stretched, or a bushing out of the linkage. Take the plastic console off and look at the action of the shifter if it has alot of freeplay when trying to put it into 5th gear I would say, Get a junk yard shifter.
If you go into transmission It has to be pulled out of car to dissassemble it and it really is a job for a transmission specialist. Get a Junk yard tranny and just replace it. They usually give a gaurantee of some sort with the tranny.
