Question about 2003 Ford Windstar

1 Answer

O/D off light flashing

I have just purchased a 2003 Winstar and just yesterday after driving for about 10 mins or so the O/D off light starts flashing. Now I have a DVD player that was installed under the passenger seat by the previous owner.

I need to pay closer attention but the player cuts on when I start the van. This morning the O/D off light started flashing about 2 mins down the road after I had made sure the DVD player was turned off. I had also just made and envasive manuver where I served slightly around a car in front of me who decided to turn at the last minute just before the light started flashing - not sure if this is related or not.

However, I got to a stopping point (red light) and cut the engine off and then started the van again and the light remained off. Granted the DVD player was back on . . .

Wondering if there is something the DVD player could be connected to that could cause this issue - my ex did do some work on it Sunday and I know there is a great deal of feedback from the engine when my kids are watching a DVD in the sound.

Any ideas would be greatly appriciated.

Also, van has 82,000 miles

My dad has one of those things to plug in to see why the engine light is on - will that do the same thing?

This sucks! I haven't even made the first payment! Only have had the van for 2 weeks and 2 days! UGH!

I have a feeling you are right - however, they had us sign a bill of sale stating we accept the van as is. . . guess I'd have to check to see if I have any legal rights that will null and void that document. UGH!

I wondered when they presented it and my gut said don't sign that but I did it anyway - I'm sooo stupid!

I'll have my dad check it tonight. . . . Keeping fingers crossed that it is a minor problem. . ..

Thank you for your information, emmissionwiz! My dad and I took my van to a friend of his who owns his own shop and had the reader. It came up with a code for the 4th gear - he said that either the sensor has gone bad (since I don't seem to be having trouble or noticable issues with the transmission when driving) or the gear ratio is not matching what the computer thinks it should be. So we are going to take it to him tomorrow and he is going to (I guess you'd call it) flush or service the transmission and fix the problem whichever it turns out to be.

I'm not sure if the previous owner was aware of the issue or not but I know my dad's friend cleared the error and I was almost home when the light started flashing again. . . so I'm thinking this may just be bad timing since I have had the van for just over 2 weeks before it started.

I am a retired Ford technician, so I have seen and know why the OD light is flashing, it indicates a problem with the transmission, it is no related to the DVD player in any way, have a parts store like Kragen or others run a scanner on the Van, there will be a trouble code stored that will give an idea of the problem with the van's transmission, post the code back on this thread and I will look at it and give you some idea of the problem and cost to fix it.

Yes that should work, take it back and make them (the seller) fix it, it most likely had the problem when they sold it, they cleared the computer memory most likely, I want you to know that Windstars have a very high failure rate for the transmissions, don't know why, but we replaced 100's of them under the new car warranty.

Security light is flashing. car will not start on my 2003 oldsmobile alero

I OWN a 2001 Olds Alero and the same thing happens to mine.. It's an easy fix..
1. Turn the Key to ACC (keep it in this mode for the entire 10 minutes).
2. The security light on the Dashboard will flash for exactly 10 minutes..
3. Once the 10 mins are over, the security light will stay solid..
Wait for the red light to disappear off the dashboard...

We have replaced the ignition switch in our 2003 saturn ion. How do we reset the passlock?

Leave the key in the on position for 10 minutes until the security light stops flashing. Turn the key off and wait 5 sec. If it starts and dies, leave the key on for 10 min. again. You might have to leave the key on 3 times. While you are doing this have a battery charger on it. If the battery goes dead. (You might have the key on for 30 min if you have to do it 3 times the battery might get low) you will have to start all over.

Hi I own A 98 Chevy Malibu, my ignition locked n i had to put a new ignition switch in, well now my cars tellin me Something Theft Service. Im wonder what I need to do? Iv unhooked battery for hours ect...

You need to reset the theft system. To do this, try to start it. It should start and die. Then after it dies and the theft light is flashing, leave the key on for 10 minutes. After 10 min, the theft light should go out. After the theft light goes out, turn off the key. Count to 5, then restart it. Then it should work.

91 vw golf will not stay running after 15 minutes

You are losing oil pressure, this means your oil pump is probably out. Don't drive it anymore until you can get that repaired. It's shutting down because it's siezing up. You need the extra power to jump it because the piston rings and wall are sticking together, let it all cool down and the rings contract and loosens up. Allowing the engine to turn.

Pt cruiser alarm fault

Try unhooking the battery for about 10 mins. That should clear any problems and give the alarm time to reset.

I have a 2003 Envoy. The vehicle worked perfectly until yesterday. My wife locked her keys in the vehicle while it was running. After we unlocked it with secon set we brought it home and parked it. An hour...

You should try resetting the computer. This is done by pulling off the negative cable to the battery. Pull it off for 20 seconds, on for 10 then back off for 20 then back on permanately. You may have tripped the anti theft system on your vehicle. This may or may not solve your problem, but will eleminate some things. Good luck to you. Thanks for using fixya!
