this is a most unusual problem both keys will not turn in the ignition switch the car is in park and the steering wheel will not lock in place the only thing that i can think might be a big part of the problem is the tumblers in the ingition switch are bad and worn out from constant in and out and are not opening up or are locked in place when i get this this resolved i will post a solution

Put the brakeon while trying to turn the key, also try turnin the steering wheel, I know it is locked but just put a little pressure on it it should move one way or the other a half inch. If it's standard be sure to put the clutch pedal in as well.

Sometimes after I put my 2000 Buick Regal LS in Park and turn off the engine the ignition switch not the key gets stuck in the on and acc position. What causes this to happen?

Replace ignition switch (the tumbler portion) seems like its hanging up, and you shouldn't be able to remove the keys unless the switch is off.The park safety switch possibly. This switch tells the vehicle its in Park. Hope this helps.

Car locked in park

follow this steps and fix it. GOD BLESS YOU

Ensure that your vehicle's transmission is in park. If you have manual transmission you can skip this step and move on to Step 2.

  • 2 Press the brake of your car completely down with your right foot. If the key of the car is not in the ignition put it there now.

  • 3
Hold the steering wheel of your car firmly with your left hand and the car's key placed in the ignition with your right hand. Turn the steering wheel to the right and left while you twist the ignition key as if you are starting the car. Engaging in these two motions simultaneously will release the ignition switch and allow you to turn the car on.

1997 Ford Crown Victoria Ignition Cylinder locked with key in the on position and wont move forward and backwards , (Story) turned the car on and drove for a few minutes when i arrived to the house put...

you never describe what type of fuel does your car use... is it a diesel or petrol engine? if its a diesel engine then i have the correct sollution that can help you. the problem will be on the injector pump, on the main switch. change the switch and the problem will be solved. or check whether power reaches there. when it reaches then is the injector switch doesnt work to close the main valve that the car can switch off. all the best

The ignitioe will not turn out of the off position, the steering column will not lock and transmission shifter depresser button presses but will not move out of park.

SOUND LIKE IGNITION SWITCH KEYLOCK CYLINDER BROKEN. IN WHICH YOU CANT GET CAR OUT OF PARK.THE KEY LOCK CYLINDER BY TURNING THE KEY.IT MOVES A GEAR AND RACK ASSEMBLY THAT IN TURN MOVES THE IGNITION SWITCH ACTUATOR ROD AND PLUNGER TO VARIOUS POSITIONS REQUIRED FOR PERFORMING IGNITION SWITCH FUNCTIONS. IF KEYLOCK BROKEN YOU WONT BEABLE TO TURN IGNITION KEY OR GET CAR OUT OF PARK.

Car is in park on incline, and will not start.

There is a neutral safety switch to make sure car is neutral. If that switch went bad or becase your parked on incline the switch is not made up because car rolled back when you put it in park.If you can depending on the situation, put key in ignition, turn key till one click before it starts, apply emergency brake, depress regular brakes and shift car from park to drive then back to park.then turn off key and restart. If for some reason you try to shift out of park and it wont move you need to roll car a little forward or backward(have someone else do the pushing and be carefull not to put anyone in a pinch point between another car if this car is parked between two cars)With older cars this is usally the case.If this fixes your problem i would have a mechanic change switch because this will probrobly happen again.Be carefull.......

    No fire to coil

Before you replace the ignition coil, make sure that you do the folowing. Turn ignition to on, move automatic gear shift lever through the gears and when you move it back to park shove it harder than normal. Turn key completely off and then try to start the car.
If the car is not sufficiently in PARK or the park sensor switch is defective it will act like the car is turned off. Also you can try starting in NEUTRAL to troubleshoot whether the car will get fire.

    My stickshift doesn't move

You will need to have your foot on the brake to make the stickshift lever move out of park. If it still will not, look for a faulty switch or solenoid coming from the brake pedal. Also, the car key has to be turned on.

Something you might try, if the brake release switch is bad, is to turn the key to ACC and do not start the car. Then see if you can move the lever to neutral, then turn the ignition to "start" and drive normally.

My impala will not crank at all. my battery is charged but when i turn the car to start nothing at all happens.

POSSIBLE CAUSE BATTERY CABLES COULD BE LOOSE OR CORRODED OR BAD GROUND CABLE.YOUR STARTER SOLENOID OR STARTER IS FAULTY.YOUR CAR COULD BE IN THEFT DETERENT MODE.ALSO CHECK IGNITION FUSE TO MAKE SURE THE IGNITION SWITCH IS GETTING POWER.BECAUSE A BAD IGNITION SWITCH WILL CAUSE NO START PROBLEMS.
