My abs and trac off lights came on and I don't know what that means

This started happening a few years ago, usually on left turns, then on right turns and weather changes. I thought it may be due to the left front tire leaking, as a low tire might cause the detector in the wheel hub to report a speed outside of the normal range. New tires and it is worse. Only way to reset is to turn off car and restart. Have shop check the detectors, and the computer downloads. I mean to do this in the future and will report back. This is for the SE, NOT the GT

I have the same exact problem. My 2000 Grand AM has had the ABS Trac off and Service Vehicle and Service Engine Soon lights on for a couple years now. I took it everywhere trying to figure it out and one guy told me to put new wheel bearings on it. I put it on one side of my car and it is not fixed yet. So, hopefully once I put the other one on it will go away.

I asked the mechanic when I got the new tires put on and he said this could be 'fixed' by repacking the bearings. This is plausible if one or more are dragging and causing the sensors to detect too much variation in the speeds.

Since the new tires have been on, only a few errors and not any lately even with a sharp turn. The temperature seems to have an effect.

i will ask more mechanics in the next few weeks and report.

I JUST GOT THIS SAME PROBLEM FROM A YOUNG LADY AND FOUND OUT SHE NEVER BACKS UP. PULLED THE REAR DRUMS TO FIND THE REAR SHOES LIKE NEW AND WAY OUT OF AJUSTMENT. BACKING UP AND HITTING THE BRAKES ACTUALLY CAUSES THE BRAKES TO SELF ADJUST. THE ABS IS SENSING NO REAR BRAKE PRESSURE. I ADUSTED THE BRAKES AND THEN BACKED UP A COUPLE OF TIMES TO GET THE FINAL AJUSTMENT AND THERE HAS BEEN NO PROBLEM SINCE. HOPE THIS HELPS!

My trac light says trac off, and my abs light is on. what does that mean? I have a 1999 grand am Pontiac.

the trac light is the traction control, the abs light means the antilock brake system is not functioning properly. the trac control is no issue. the abs will not cause the brakes to fail but they will lock instead of pulsing.

I have a 2000 pontiac grand prix... The Abs

the trac shuts off when theres a check engine light or a abs light on, most likely theres a bad abs wheel sensor but you will have to have the abs computer scaned to find out which one it is. hope this helps.

How do I get the trac off light to go out on 2001 grand am se

I had a similar problem. Assuming you have pushed the trac button and it doesn't turn the light off.. It on the middle console. I went to AutoZone and checked the OBD code for free. Turned out I needed to replace my Throttle Position Sensor and it's fixed. Very simple to replace. Let me know if you need instruction on that.

Abs light, trac light, service engine soon light 2001 Pontiac Grand Am

Sounds like you have a bad wheel speed sensor. You need to have it scanned. Since it's been sitting, it might just be a bad connection to one of the speed sensors.

I have this same problem and had it checked. It is the wheel sensor. Mine is the passenger front right wheel sensor. According to the mechanic I take it to the GrandAm's are known for this. The part is about $40.

It is possible that you pushed the ETS button. The 'trac off' light comes on in my Grand Am when this is pushed.

My abs light and trac off light are both on

Def the wheel bearings/hub/speed sensor. I just bought a new wheel bearing comes with the hub and speed sensor as one. Runs about 80-100 dollars though but abs/traction light went off and stays off now.
