the anti-theft system counts down from 3mins. then says to start but starts the count all over

  • caddie1995 May 08, 2009

My 1995 Cadillac DeVille battery was unplugged for about one hour. When I re-connected it, the three minute countdown started. After the three minutes, it said to start -- I did. It didn't do anything else but start the countdown all over again. I never had this problem before. I tried cleaning the key chip multiple times... Nothing works.

Disconnect your battery wait 30 seconds then reconnect and it wll start for sure. if not get a new or clean your old key and make sure it is dry then try again. I have dealt with this a hundred times an think it has to do with worn chips on the keys/bad sensor in the ignition.

Basically, your security system has the ability to stop the car from starting due to theft and when you put a bad/dirty/wet key in the ignition it triggers the anti theft. your SECURITY light should illuminate red. it will say wait 3 minutes(in my 95 eldorado) and counts down when it gets to 0 and says start car I always make sure I start it right then, ensuring the car it is not being stolen. I have had it count down to 0 and then not start, and all you hear is the starter locking up. click click click. When you turn the key over your antenna goes up, if when you try to start the car the antenna goes down and all you hear is the starter clicking, then you def have same problem as me. try the batterry trick. hope this helps.

Replace ignition lock cylinder. The wires that arm the anti theft are broken and they will be on a new lock cylinder. You will need to buy a new chip key also to fit new cylinder.

Anti-thief system cut off power to den gine an won't cut it back on

If you are dealing with the anti theft the anti theft will flash as you are trying to start the vehicle if this is the case then it is the anti theft if not then you are not dealing with a ant theft issue. You can do a 30 minute relearn procedure without a scan tool. here is how Turn ignition on without the engine reunning.attempt to start the vehicle then release the key to ON.(vehicle doest start) Observe the security light.afeter 10 minutes the security light will turn off.Turn off the ignition and wait 5 seconds.do this 3 times for 30 minutes. start the engine with the engine started the vehicle will learn the passlock key.

How to rekey a pontiac sunfire 2004

Im assuming you are refering to the anti theft security key relearn process.

1. Perform a security system relearn.
2. Let the vehicle sit for more than 10 minutes with the key off.
3. Attempt to start the engine, leave the key in the run position monitoring the security system indicator.
4. After 10 minutes, the security indicator will change state.
5. Turn the key off and wait 10 seconds.
6. Attempt to start the engine. If the engine stalls, wait another 10 minutes with the key on.
7. After the second 10 minute timer has expired, turn the key off for 10 seconds.
8. Attempt to start the engine. If the engine stalls, wait another 10 minutes with the key on.
9. After the 3rd 10 minute timer has expired, shut the key off for 10 seconds.
10. The security system will relearn on the 4th starting attempt and the engine should start and run.

If that doesnt work, look into this link http://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.yolasite.com/

Chevy malibu displays "Theft system"

You can the procedure below by following the details to reset the Passlock system. Otherwise, you will need to have it diagnosed and repaired. There is no quick way to disable an alarm system on any vehicle, if this could be simply done, the alarm system would be useless.

30 Minute Learn Procedure

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON, vehicle will not start.
  3. Observe the SECURITY telltale, after approximately 10 minutes the telltale will turn OFF.
  4. Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 5 seconds.
  5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 two more times for a total of 3 cycles/30 minutes, the vehicle is now ready to relearn the PasslockTM Sensor Data Code and/or passwords on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK. Important The vehicle learns the PasslockTM Sensor Data Code and/or password on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK. You must turn the ignition OFF before attempting to start the vehicle.

  6. Start the engine, the vehicle has now learned the PasslockTM Sensor Data Code and/or password.
  7. With a scan tool, clear any DTCs if needed, history DTCs will self clear after 100 ignition cycles.

Car won't start.Theft light blinks, clicking sound under hood and thumping like horn wants to go off.Seems like it's stuck in anti theft mode

anti theft light should blink every few seconds.

try disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes.

Anti-Theft-Perimeter The perimeter anti-theft system consists of the following components:
  • anti-theft indicator (THEFT)
  • remote anti-theft personality (RAP) module
  • hood switch
  • keyless entry remote transmitter
  • deck lid ajar switch
NOTE: The remote entry features will not function when the ignition switch is in the RUN or ACC position.
Up to four keyless entry remote transmitters (15K601) can be programmed at one time.
The keyless entry remote transmitters :
  • Are programmable.
  • Must be set at the same time.
  • House four buttons.
  • House three buttons (Mexico Anti-Theft System only).
Programming
Refer to Section 501-14B.
Inputs and Outputs
The remote anti-theft personality (RAP) module receives input from the following components for anti-theft operation:
  • Hood switch.
  • Deck lid ajar switch.
  • Keyless entry remote transmitter.
  • Power door lock switches (LH and RH).
  • Door courtesy input.
The RAP module distributes output to the following for the anti-theft system:
  • Power door unlock relay.
  • Power door lock relay.
  • Liftgate unlock relay (Wagon)
  • Park lamps relay.
  • HORN relay.
  • Dome lamp.
  • THEFT indicator.
  • Deck lid release.
Arming
The anti-theft system can be armed if:
  • The ignition switch is in the OFF position.
  • The panic alarm is off.
  • All doors are closed.
NOTE: If a door is open, the anti-theft system is prearmed and waiting for all the doors to be closed. The THEFT indicator will remain illuminated for up to 30 minutes waiting for all the doors to be closed. If a door remains open after 30 minutes, the THEFT indicator will turn off and the system will return to a disarmed state. After all doors are closed and the 30 second prearm (continuous THEFT indicator illumination) is complete, the system is armed.
NOTE: If the theft LED does not flash after 30 seconds, check the LED FLASH PID to see if the feature is enabled.
The anti-theft system will be armed when the lock button on the keyless entry remote transmitter is pressed, all doors are closed and 30 seconds have elapsed.
When the system is armed, the THEFT indicator will flash quickly until the system is triggered or disarmed.
Disarming
NOTE: Using a key in a door lock cylinder to unlock is not a valid method of disarming the anti-theft system.
Untriggered System
NOTE: If the driver arms the system and remains in the vehicle, an untriggered system can be disarmed by turning the ignition switch to the ON position.
An untriggered alarm system can be disarmed by pressing the unlock button on the keyless entry remote transmitter.
Triggered System
NOTE: If the hood or trunk are open when the system is armed, it must be closed and opened again before it can trigger an alarm.
An armed anti-theft system can be triggered by the following conditions:
The deck lid door, liftgate, hood or any door is opened using a key, inside door handle, hood release, etc.
  • The keyless entry remote transmitter can activate a panic alarm which is similar to the anti-theft alarm, but does not cause the THEFT indicator to flash.
A triggered alarm system can be disarmed by:
  • Pressing the unlock or panic button on the keyless entry remote transmitter.
  • Turning the ignition switch to the ON position.
Alarm State When Battery Power Is Cycled
When the RAP module is supplied power the first time at the vehicle assembly plant, the system will be in the disarmed state. The RAP module will remember whether it is armed, disarmed or triggered in its non-volatile memory. When the battery positive cable is removed and then reconnected, the system will return to the state it was in just before the battery was disconnected. If the system is in any prearm state, then the system will return to a disarmed state when the battery is disconnected and then reconnected.

Car wont start, changed ecm, plugs, started but died, what should i do

After you put in the ecu, do the crank relearn, and you're good to go.
Ensure that your battery is fully charged before attempting the relearn procedure. Do not leave any battery charger or jumper cables attached to the battery. Close the hood completely. Some applications require that the doors remain closed during the procedure.
96-99 GM
1. Rotate the key to the start position to attempt to start the vehicle (the vehicle will not start).
Allow the key to return to the all position (same as if the vehicle would have started). The theft system light will flash (or stay lit) on the dash for approximately 10 minutes.
2. When the theft system telltale stops flashing (or turns oft) turn the key to the off position for 5 seconds and then attempt tostart the vehicle. The vehicle should start on this cycle.
3. Once the vehicle is running, the password relearn is complete.

00 + GM
1. Rotate the key to the start position to attempt to start the vehicle (the vehicle will not start). Allow the key to return to the on position. (same as if the vehicle would have started)
2. The theft system light will flash (or stay lit) on the dash for approximately 10 minutes.
3. When the theft system telltale stops flashing (or turns off) turn the key to the off position for 5 seconds and then attempt to start the vehicle.
4. Repeat steps 1 through 3 two more times for a total of 3 cycles/30 minutes.
5. On the next cycle of turning the ignition key from off to crank the vehicle should start
6. Once the vehicle is running, the password is learned and this completes the cycle.
7. Clear any DTC's with a scan tool if necessary. DTC history will be cleared after 100 ignition cycles.

2000 pont. g/p int. start/stall. replaced theft module twice,comp., ig.swicht,keys,P1629

THIS SYSTEM REQUIRES A REPROGRAMMING PROCEDURE AFTER COMPONENT REPLACEMENT. THERE IS A MANUAL RELEARN YOU CAN TRY BEFORE HAVING TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER FOR REPROGRAMMING. THE RELEARN IS AS FOLLOWS: DIS-CONNECT BATTERY FOR 5 MINUTES. RECONNECT BATTERY,TURN KEY ON BUT DO NOT START!! WAIT APPROX. 20 MINUTES OR WAIT UNTIL THEFT LIGHT GOES OFF. TURN KEY TO OFF FOR 5 SECONDS THEN ATTEMPT TO START. IF IT STILL WONT START LEAVE KEY IN RUN POSITION FOR AN ADDITIONAL 20 MINUTES OR UNTIL THEFT LIGHT GOES OUT THEN ATTEMPT START AGAIN. MAKE SURE BATTERY IS FULLY CHARGED!!! IF THIS DOESNT WORK IT WILL HAVE TO GO TO DEALERSHIP FOR REPROGRAMMING WITH TECH 2 SCANNER.

Starter disabled due to theft system

the wire that goes to the ignition to the anti theft device is probably broken if you call a good locksmith they can go in through the steering column and fix it same thing happened to my 95 eldorado apparently cadillac designed the anti theft system to coincide with the ignition and is connected to the ignition with two wires that turn as the key is turned the wires twist and eventually they wear out
