I have a 1970 Dodge pickup with the gas tank behind the seat. I would like to replace it with one mounted under the bed. Mechanical fuel pump. Do they make a poly tank that can be used? Does anyone have any experience doing this?

Sometimes there is access through the floor, under the rear seat, load floor, etc.

Best way to accomplish this task is to leave the back two bed bolts on and just loose. then just hoist up the front of the bed and prop it up. I have done numerous fuel pump changes this way.

Yep, usually the tank. And not only dangerous to extract, the replacement is costly... But you need it to work....

You have two choices.
1. Relieve fuel pressure.
2. Disconnect battery.
3. Lift truck, disconnect fuel lines, filler pipe and pump wires and remove fuel tank,

or lift pickup bed to access top of tank.

The fuel pump is in the gas tank, Remove tank, And then remove the sending unit, The pump attatches to it

That is harder yet unless you have an overhead crane. Remove the six stove bolts and all electrical retaianing clips if any mounted to the beds rails and remove

The fuel filter is not IN the fuel tank. The Fuel PUMP is IN the fuel tank. The Filter is mounted to the underneath of the truck bed NEXT to the Fuel tank. Its alittle smaller than a soda can with two fuel hoses connected to it.

Unless this problem has been slowly creeping up on you, I'm going to say you need to look at the fuel pump too.

You can check under the seat of the Stratus for an access point. But unfortunately I don't think there is door. You are going to be pulling out the tank.

1988 Dodge Ram 50 fuel filter is located adjacent to fuel tank. More specifically, the fuel filter is directly above frame rail at front end of fuel tank. The fuel filter and retaining clip can be seen between the two bed mounts on the driver side.
