Question about 1998 Volkswagen Beetle

1 Answer

1998 Beetle The diagnostic test shows codes p 001c and p 3042. The car runs fine but Volkwagen says for these codes I have to take to a dealer. The nearest dealer is 120 miles and the var is ten years old so I feel this information should be available. Gary

Those codes are not valid OBDII codes. Did you retrieve these codes with a scan tool?

1998 vw bettle. it runs fine for a while then it just die,s ,after waiting for 10 or 20 minutes it starts up and runs fine. it has 90,000. i replaced the fuel filter wich was pluged. last time it died

The first thing that must be done with a problem like this is to have the dealer scan the engine control module for fault codes. Once the codes are read careful diagnostics follow to isolate the problem. Replacing any parts without doing the testing will likely result in a colossal waste of time and your money.

What do these codes for my 1999 volkswagon beetle

Personally, I'd have your husband take the car to one of the local auto parts stores like Auto Zone. They can test your vehicle and diagnose the codes for you. The service is free. They will also recommend replacement parts should your husband decide that he wants to attempt to fix the vehicle himself. I'm not quite sure that your vehicle should be displaying so many different codes all at the same time.

Stalling beetle

Hi
I would get a list of fault codes from the onboard diagnostic system and take it from there. You could either go to a VW dealer, or if you are technically minded you could buy a £15 interface cable, download some free "VAG diagnostic software" - just Google it :-) and with a portable computer you could get the codes yourself. Again and again.

When you have the codes "ask" me. They don't always mean what they seem to mean.

If these suggestions do help you solve the problem, please give my reply a rating to help others judge my knowledge / guessing skills. If they do not, please add a comment with more details so I can try to help you further. Cheers, D
