The new cd player only has 3 wires besides the speaker wires to hookup. A red(power), yellow(power antenna) and black(ground). I hooked the red wire to the 12v +constant wire and it was working for a second and then I could not get it working again. When it came on and I turned it off it sounded like the speakers were hooked up wrong even though I got some sound there was a background noise when I turned it off. I read that the yellow wire could be the amp wire and then also that it is not used unless I have a power antenna? Do I use that wire and does it go to the ford amp wire? Is the power wire supposed to go to the 12v + constant wire or the 12v + switched wire? and/or does the yellow wire go to either of these?
The yellow wire does not get used unless you have a power antenna to hook it to. The red wire is suppose to be hooked to the wire that was used as power for the stock stereo, so it turns on and off with the key. If you have it hooked to constant power, it has power coming to it even when it's turned off. That and the fact that you may need a better ground is most likely the reason you're getting the moise even when turned off. You may also want to check your speaker connections.

to bench test you need a speaker, a 12 volt power supply, and something to add as an antenna wire about 3 ft long..most radios have a power wire, ground, memory, and 4 mated speaker leads..others also have these nw rca connections for hookup to an auxilary amp unit..now, determine which is power(usually red orange or yellow with a fuse in the line..a blak or brown ground wire, a yellow or white memory wire.. and the speaker leads should be mated lines 2 front and 2 rear.. now since this is going in a nissan..please do this..post a photo of the wires on the radio and a photo of the wires in the car system and I may help you figure this spaghetti mess out...do not power up anything unless you are absolutely sure whats what or you will burn up the radio..

The sell a nifty little invention at Wally-World. Its called a wire harness...look for it in the auto parts section. it will wire directly to your stereo wires and then just plug & go... if your subaru wires are missing the harness on the end, its a whole different ballgame, and its gonna be fun...try this...

Red - Power Yellow - primary power must be joined to the red blue - Remote Black - ground or negative To find your speaker wires check the color of the cord behind each speaker than match it with the same color in the dash. or the easy way is to use a normal 1.5v penlight battery and try each speaker cord behind the dash and listen to which speaker give off a crackling noise so you can get the balance on the cd player right. If u trying to find power in the car and don't have a tester than get a 12v light or bulb join the negative to the body and push the positive wire into each one of the holes in the factory plug in the dash one at a time until the light comes on. That is your positive the rest is easy. (DIY guru)
u need the colors of the radio or the car wires.... here are the car wires and the radio are below that. I suggest however gettiing a wiring kit..They are around 8 dollars and well worth the money. It makes is so easy to connect a radio.
