First turn the steering wheel all the way to the right. Then use some pliers to carefully
remove the plastic retaining clips that hold the splash guard in place
in the right front wheel-well. You should now be able to see the oil
filter (incidentally this is how you access the oil filter). Remove the
oil filter. You should now be able to see the PCV valve and its hose
which connects to the intake manifold. Use pliers and loosen/slide the
retaining clip up the hose a couple of inches (this will alow the PCV
valve to rotate as you unscrew it). Use a "stubby" open wrench to
unscrew the PCV valve. With the PCV valve removed from the crankcase it
is now easier to remove it from the hose. Reverse the process with a
new PVC valve and you are finished. Appoximate time 30- 45 minutes.

No, I suggest you try to scan your computer and use the codes to diagnose the problem. You need fuel, spark and air for the engine to function. The computer manages the ratios (based on sensor inputs) for optimum performance.

The best way to change it is to go thru the wheel well. Take off the passenger front wheel, lift or remove the rubber splash curtain, remove the oil filter, disconnect the rubber vacuum hose, then use a 19 mm wrench to remove the pcv valve. ----------

the pcv valve is behind the alternator between the alternator and oil filter. when you remove the oil filter you can see the pcv in the intake manifold. best way to get to it is through the pass side fender under the rubber mud flap thats between the wheel and engine.
The PCV valve on the KA24E 4-cylinder is located in front of the oil filter and above the alternator. It points to the rear of the engine.
You will need only two tools; a stubby 19mm open end wrench and a pair of pliers to remove the hose clamp. I did it without removing anything else. Just reach around to the right of the oil filter. It took about 15 minutes. Here is a pic:
