I have the same problem, a rough idle, and a check engine light. My code reads "Bank 2 Lean" I have replaced the fuel filter, and nothing changed. I also had the spark plug wires changed, and that helped some initialy, but now its back

I was looking under the hood, and noticed that i could hear air rushing around. I found that a vacum hose had decayed and cracked. After i replaced that, everything has been fine

I had this same problem with my 2001 sables ls premium, it ended up being the upper and lower intake manifold gaskets, they are really cheap, like 20 bucks for both sets, and i did it right in my drive way in about 45 minutes. mine also read bank 1 lean!!! it hasnt acted up on me ever since and its been about a year now!! let me know if this works for you!! it should!!

Can't say for sure but if you take it to autozone they will diagnose it for free. Mine turned out to be a bad coil pack

2000 Mercury Sable double overhead cam/car starts 7has 35psi fuel pressure/pressure drops to under 20 psi & motor stops running. What would cause the fuel pump to shut down? Runs & maintains

It is likely the fuel pump is defective. It never produces the correct pressure based on the readings you presented here, it should be 42-44 PSI at idle and then when you throttle the engine it should go up to about 50 PSI, never down. To change the pump you must remove the gas tank from the car, this takes special tools (fuel line release tool) and a helper for sure. About 3 hours on the ground. This is a guess on my part and I caution you to have it checked out by the dealer before any parts are replaced.

1989 Mercury Sable GS 3.0L runs rough and idles down and stalls

Sounds like you might have a stuck open EGR valve. Is the check engine light on. I would replace the fuel filter if it hasn't been replaced, also check the air filter.

I have a 1985 Mercury Sable. It will run for awhile and shut down and after sitting for awhile starts back up I smell gas and wonder does the fuel filter or fuel pump needs to be changed

the fule pump is in the gas tank, if you hear it humming with the engine running, it's likely ok. Should have 40 psi if you check withg gage on scrader valve on fuel rail on engine.

I have a 2001 mercury sable. when the car is idling it shakes and idles a lil high ive had a tune up, trans fluid change and oil change. i was told that my right trans axle seal needed to be replaced. it...

Take a spray bottle and put water in it and with engine running start spraying around the vaccum hoses and manifold intake, even ignition wires and coils...you are looking for vaccum leaks of some kind, or electical leaks. If the engine levels out at any point that you spray, inspect that area for a bad hose or leaking gasket. If it gets worse around the electrical wires, coil, ect, you can replace that componet. You will be able to buy an empty spray bottle at Automotive stores.

My 2003 Mercury Sable station wagon with the 24 valve 6cyl. seems to be missing at idle and occasionally on acceleration. I changed the plugs and wires and ran fuel injector cleaner for a month. Nothing...

Check the coil out put.
Loosen the wires from the plugs with the engine off then find some plastic plyers or an insulated tool to remove the wire without getting shocked.
Start the car and one by one remove and replace each wire to see which one does not make a difference in the way the engine runs. Thats the one that probably has a bad coil.

Rough idle

Mercury had a recall on 3.0 duratech motors in 2000 and 2001. If you get a fuel smell at startup then you might have a bad lower intake gasket, it could cause a miss if seal is cracked. Article No. 01-4-3 you can get it on AllData.

Also, check the PC rubber L piece that runs from the PVC valve to under the throttle control - it could be busted.

Make sure ignition wires are not cracked. If you haven't tuned it up in over 30-40K consider doing that.

2003 Mercury Sable gas cap light stays on!

make sure that the gas cap have a rubber gasket in it if it has accidentaly dropped off while you removed to fill the tnk it will not seal properly and create a vacum leak causing the ecm to turn on the light.

or did you have an accident or did you run over any thing that could have damaged the vapor canister at the bottom of the vehicle and if this is the case you will see the light on because a damaged canister can cause a vacum leak
