Generic problem for all Mazda Protege Cars

My car is a 03 (by 2 users)

my car is a 03 mazdaspeed protege. After about a twenty minute drive it starts making a high pitched whistle sound. When i give it some gas it stops but when i let off it comes back.

I have the same problem. I was told by an auto shop that the entire turbo needs replaced and it would be $2,500+ to fix it. However I read that the wastegate actuator could be the problem and it seems to cost around $500. Anyone have an idea or maybe you have fixed your problem and could shed some light?

This could be caused the idle speed control valve as air passes through it, have seen this issue on other models many times, clean the valve first, if the noise persists replace it.
