I have a 2004 Chevy Malibu LS V6. Sometimes when I try starting the car up it won't start. I have to push the gas lightly to get it started. I have had the the fuel pump checked millions of times and have been told nothing is wrong with it. What could be the problem?
I have an 04 Malibu and when I get hard starts when I'm in the car I just press the accelerator down about half way and it always starts right up, some times I have to hold the accelerator down a little after starting to stop it from stalling but it is rare.
After having the same problem, i looked in the owners manual. In there it said that you are to lightly press the accelerator when you start the car. Supposed to have something to do with the electrical system. Try looking in your owners manual under "Starting your Vehicle" or something like that.
I hope this helps!
I have a 2005 chevy malibu that one morning it just didn't start, when I turn the key I here a beeping noise and thats it. Is it the starter?
Cloged or bad injectors, check your fuel lines, you maybe losing presser in you fuel rail, get a presser gauge for the fuel rail and check it before starting then check it after, be sure that the car has sat for a long time 4 or more hours

it is often a mix of fuel/oil vapor and water, use carb cleaner to remove it every so often and re-install it after it is dry.

Once again I have the same problem with my 04 malibu with 53,000 miles. I have cleaned the ground wires, changed the battery, and did a tune-up without any success. I know it is not the fuel pump because i hear it engage. Note: 3.5 V6
I also have the same problem, also another little problem is the temp guage won't work when this problem occurs but it works just fine when I don't have the problem. I'm stumped.
The differnece i have is sometimes it decides to start via remote. I did notice something strange where i got off the highway that had a long curve and i notice my temp gage went off...i freak out. the temp gage return to normal the next day... but still no remote start... jsut lights flash.
My 2004 Malibu Maxx has the same issue. I've been talking to different people, and I'm going to change the spark plugs and see where that takes me.
only sometimes it takes up to 5 tries to start... other times its fine... with no patern
My 04 malibu won't start, just purchased in January. Started once then cut off now it won't start at all
2004 chevy malibu ls v6 was working fine and all of a sudden wouldnt start. The engine cranks and I can smell some gas but am dumbfounded why this happened all of a sudden.
I have the same problem with my chevy malibu 2001 .... it' won't start sometimes in till I give it a little gas!!! I hate it!!!
I have the same problem with a 2004. I have had it in multiple times. 2 years ago they replaced the fuel pump but it didn't help. I just paid a $78 service charge for them to tell me they don't know what is wrong with the car. Thanks Law Chevrolet in Boonville, IN!
I have a 2004 Chevy Malibu. I also have had most of the problems listed on this site, but my main problem right now is The other day my power steering warning light came on on the highway. The car was still driving fine. After we parked and ate lunch came out it was off, the car was still fine. The next morning when I started it I had a squealing noise like a fan belt, but it went away after about 1/2 a block, now a few days later it is getting much worse and and stays on quite awhile. Does the power steering have a belt? and can this be fixed without replacing the whole unit?
Turn the key and you hear it trying to start but never actually starts - give it a little fuel and it works... This has happened since I bought it new.
I'm having the same issue with my 2006 chevy malibu 3.5 and HAVE NOT found anyone with a reasonable answer or problem fix! I'm told it could be throttle position sensor, too much carbon build up in the intake manifold and restricting air or a fuel pressure regulator! NOT sure what it is BUT it is very apparent that this is an on going issue with all Chevy Malibu's in this generation! The car will not start unless i tap the gas when starting it... any suggestions? I'm trying to clean the throttle body with a rag and brake cleaner at the moment
