If by head covers you mean valve covers this is an easy fix just install a new set of valve cover gaskets, as this is a fairly common problem ( valve cover gaskets ). Just unbolt the valve covers and remove them then scrape off the old gasket and install the new ones and bolt the covers back on. This is a pretty easy job and the gaskets are less than $ 25.00. If it is the oil pan gasket you will needto drain the oil and unbolt the oil pan and remove it then clean off the old gasket and install the new one.

2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport 135,000. 3 issues. 1). I have a small oil leak somewhere, I check the levels but never seem to need to add any. I smell burnt oil when I walk by the vehicle after driving. 2)....

on the oil leak issue, i would check the valve covers to see if the oil is coming from there, these have a tendecy to leak on high mileage vehichles, also check the oil sending unit, i believe this is located close to your oil filter, also, check the oil pan gasket for leakage, some of these leak in the front of the pan, under the water pump area, on the coolant issue, check all of the hose connections to make sure it is not leaking from 1 of them, if they check out ok, i would check the oil on the oil dip stick to make sure that it is not foamy, or whiteish looking, if so, coolant is getting into the oil, this could be a blown head gasket, or intake manifold gasket leaking, or cracked cylinder, hope that this information has helped you, and also hope that the problem is a minor one to fix.

I changed the oil sensor on my 1997 mercury villager van, and it is still leaking oil. The oil lite never has come on and I checked oil last night and it was one quart low. Could the gasket on the oil...

The oil is leaking from wherever you see oil on the engine. Sometimes there can be to much oil covering the engine and it needs to be degreased. A dye can also be added to the oil that will illuminate when a dye light is used to help track down a leak. If the oil pressure switch you removed wasn't wet with oil or leaking than it wasn't bad.

It could be anything from the valve cover gaskets, cam seals, front crank seal, oil pan gasket, rear main seal or head gaskets.

I was told there are two oil pans on Mazda Tribute 2001 (upper & lower) 4 cylinder manual. I have an oil leak do I replace both?

There are two gaskets, one is between the lower pan and the upper pan, and the second is between the upper pan and the engine. You only need to replace the gasket that leaks. If both are leaking, replace them both. To find out where the leaks are, raise the car, get underneath, and look closely all around the oil pans to see where the oil is coming from. Use a flashlight if necessary. You should be able to trace any leaking oil upward to its source.

The oil pan gaskets are not necessarily the only sources of oil leaks. Check to see if any oil is coming from behind the timing cover, and look for oil coming from the valve cover gasket.

I have 1995 toyota camry with 2.2 liter engine.I installed a new oil pan gasket, and valve cover gasket, cause there was alot of oil leaking from that area. All the work was done about two months ago.there...

I have the same car and the same problem. I can see the oil shooting out at the (upside down) rear, right side of the oil pan. This side of the oil pan is covered by a piece of plastic foam. There are no bolts on this side of the pan. Toyota recommends grey Formagaskit to seal the pan. The natural flow for this leak is all over the bell housing. The piece of plastic foam is attached to bell housing inspection cover. Good Luck!!!

Leaking antifreeze from oil pan bolts

Its almost impossible to leak antifreeze from oil pan bolts. However if you have a bad head-gasket antifreeze can get into the oil and yeah with that back pressure in the oil pan it can leak. I would look at the water pump first, it is possible that the pump or the seal on the pump is leaking and it is running down the front of the engine and it looks like its coming from the oil pan. Check this vehicle care fully and make sure that it is coming from the oil pan. If it is really coming from the oil pan you would nee more than a gasket you would need a complete head job. Check and let me know, the status. Good Luck
