2000 jeep grand V8 low idle then dies

I have a 2000 jeep grand cherokee that wants to die when you let it idle and dies when put it in reverse. I am having to keep one foot on the gas when stopped. I just had the oil changed and then the check engine light came on a couple of days after, 2 days later it started with the idle problem. They said a sensor with the gas cap was causing the engine light to come on. Any ideas of what I can try, is it possible they knocked something loose during the oil change?

I have almost the same problem (intermittently won't idle) with a 2000 Cherokee 2.5L 4 cylinder. Replaced fuel pump assembly, cleaned throttle body, new plugs, new wires, new dist. cap, new rotor, new catalytic converter, new muffler - still have same problem.

Check th ISC idle speed control it will cause what seams like a surg when idleing you have to keep foot on gas to even keep it running.rpm goes high then low . And it is not real expencive maybe 35 bucks and on the side ofthrotle body but when removeing watch how it goes and put it back the same there must be i touch of resistencein the spring in side.

I have replaced the gas cap, light was still on so I replaced the sensor, and cleaned the throttle body. Nothing has changed :(

A faulty gas cap can cause the sensor to come on.
Clean out the throttle body with a cleaner and see if the idle improves.

Disconnecting your battery, as you must've done when changing the starter, will cause the ecu to revert to factory settings and the computer will have to relearn the proper idle for your jeep.

What should the fuel pressure be on a 1995 Grand Cherokee with the 5.2 V8? Vehicle dies at low idle and runs rough going down the road. Wondering if fuel pump is bad.

about 35lbs is normal for most vehicles ,i think you have a problem with a air flow measurement sensor though but?? i can be wrong without a test with my automotive multimeter i honestly couldnt tell you as most of these vehicles that i work on are manual diesel versions ,onl?y seen a V8 once and that was just before it got lost?? in the crusher

My jeep will start and run but if you let of the throtle is drops the idle so low that it dies it is a 2000 jeep grand cherokee

most efi (electronic fuel injected) vehicles have idle mixtures which are controlled through sensors,.you probably have a bad sensor in the somewhere.. it could be vacume controlled one which controls the cold start switch to grab the airflow from the manifold.. more details are better.
Best regards

Sounds like fuel pump quit, do a fuel pressure test to make sure. Thats the way they act when there going to quit all together. most likely after you fill up the tank with gas.

Having trouble keeping my 98 jeep grand cherokee running

i recommend cleaning the throttle plates. they are located unter the intake hose form the engine to the air filter housing. if you open them with the engine not runniong you will see they will be covered in carbon. use a good carb cleaner and a rag to wipe them clean
