My auto guy said my engine was getting tried and im probaby going to need to replace soon with 190 on the dash. My engine will get up to 65-75mph no problem, but taking off is somewhat hestiet ( slow ) than it was when i brought it 3 years ago. He suggested that a get a super tune up and a radidator flush.. i really not in a position to buy another engine right now, so i was wondering if i should let him do the tune up, or should i get a diangnos read?
last tune up cost 40 bucks , so i could use a "real " tune up.

If your thermostat is stuck open it will overheat within 40 minutes or so of running, if it is stuck closed it will over heat within 20 minutes. However your spring in the thermostat is weak and opening too often at too low a temp, all you need is an normal new thermostat and you will be good, and yes you can get a thermostat for your car that will open at a different temp. I would go with 190 if you were to go that route. however your temp gauge will read hot too
if its manual sounds like your clutch could be slipping does car smell of burt clutch?
check cluth adjustment
may need new clutch
do stall test with hand brake on, foot (heel-toe) on brake and accel pedal to about 2000rpm then let out clutch and car should stall if engine revs go down and engine still runs but you can rev causing slip and you will now smell what slipping burnt clutch is replace it.
if its auto check trans oil level and what does it look like red-good
darker red to black-bad often smells burnt also possibly new trans required.
be very wary as headgaskets often mean other problems, overheating etc i would find another car as this is not a job for the faint of heart, other problems may arise and then your stuck. why did the headgasket blow? get back to me if you need more help as i strive to be the best please rate my answer
anywhere up to about 190-220 is normal. You might want to wire your fans up to a switch so you can run them all the time/at your discretion if you don't like it that hot. If you get a second and found this helpful I would greatly appreciate a rating. Thanks, Lee
