Everytime I turn on the front defrost, the air condition goes on, how can I turn it off. Please note, the air condition button/light is already off on the front dash board.

I do not think the question was: "Is this normal or not" The question was: HOW do you turn it off???? I understand the idea for humidity... but imagine it's winter, -30. no humidity, and very cold. First, you already waste gaz during winter and this just adds to it, second, it messes up the heating (can't figure out how to set it so its warm enough). I took the fuse out for A/C, but the whole control board for fan/heating/etc went off.

I think this is a very stupid idea... we should be able to control cars, not having cars control us.

By the way, I have a mazda protege 2001,not a tribute. I guess they are all like that.

This is normal....everything is working fine...if the window is being defrosted.

The defrost on a car works by using the A/C to remove the moisture from the air (thereby lowering the relative humidity)
It also lubricates the seal within the A/C unit during the winter...reducing the chance of seizure/failure during the following summer due to lack of lubrication.

I dont know how to turn off the air con in the car, there is no button or dial to turn off

You should have either a "snow flake " looking button that willl turn it on and off. The other style is all controls with air conditioning are in blue. All functions with air conditioning is not colored blue. You will have air conditioning on automatically if you run the defrost.

When I turn the selector to defrost my windshield the air conditioning button light comes on. I can also tell the air cond compressor coming on at the same time. Does anyone know of any fixes?

Hi, this is normal operation of the system. The defroster uses the A/C to remove moisture from the air. Please let me know if you have more questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

Air conditioning on the front window is blowing all the time

Yes , when your in defrost mode, the compressor runs, and adjusting temperature control up a little, may get you through. When you go to heat mode, compressor shuts off. The idea of the compressor running is that it assists in removing moisture(humidity) to speed up the process of defrosting.

Kia rio air conditioning light?

The manual instructions are basically:

Turn the fan to 0 (off, far left).
Turn the air control to full defrost (far right).
Press the recirculation button at least 5 times within 3 seconds.

If you've done it right, the recirculation button light will flash a few times at about 1/2 second intervals.

I've tried it on mine and this works.

Air conditioner staying on...

Many cars use air conditioning as part of the defrost function. Cold air will clear windshield faster than hot air.
