There are 2 problems for code 34. First, is manifold absolute pressure(MAP) sensor signal voltage low. Second, Mass Air Flow (MAF)sensor signal-low airflow indicated.I dont have anything for the MAC.Hope this helps

On your 3800 Olds motor, the crank position sensor can be the problem...located on the front of the motor harmonic balancer...but first try cleaning the Idle Air Control Valve...located in the air intake assembly...remove and spray clean with injector spray cleaner...clean the spring also...you can replace the IAC with a new one for about $35. Be sure to clean out the chamber too...wipe dry. Hope this helps.

What would be wrong with your 88 olds cutlas ciera if you're driving down the road and car dies and won't restart?

My car did this for a while until it would no longer move and I was told all sorts of things including cleaning (all the gunk near the MAF -hosing) which made it run for a month but did idle too high. So diagnose and get the codes from your car- the paperclip way (autozone cant cause its older than 1992).
Codes I pulled pertaining to this issue were 22 (Throttle Position Sensor- TPS Signal Voltage Low) , 23 (Air Intake Temperature- MAT Low Temp Indicated), and 34 (Mass Air Flow Sensor- MAF)
Easy to DIY with these 3 sensors

1994 Oldsmobile Bravada dies at stoplights, just changed fuel pump/filter and egr valve.Appriciate any help. thanks

check for vacuum leaks. You can do this with a can of carb spray but please be careful as it is flammable! if the ignition wires are leaking and you hit them with carb spray you will start the engine on fire!

The safer alternative is to have the engine "smoked" for vacuum leaks. This is done with a smoker. Any place that is leaking you will see smoke.

A trained ear will also be able to hear a leak.

If no leaks are found try unplugging the MAF sensor. Is is in the air tube next to the air filter box. If performance improves try cleaning it with some MAF sensor cleaner. If that doesn't work than you may need to replace it.

I have an Aurora.. It is not idling correctly. It sometimes will not shift gears until the 3000 RPMs, and it tries to die when you come to a stop. I have had the transmission rebuilt and replaced, the fly...

These symptoms indicate a vacuum leak. Check all vacuum lines attached to the engine intake manifold--especially any that go to the transmission. Check both ends with the engine running for tight connections and listen for leaks. Also look carefully over the intake manifold for any missing hoses--a port on the manifold that is sucking air. Let me know if you have questions and thanks for using FixYa.

99 mercury sable automatic trans vehicle idles very low randomly even stalls out sometimes high idle occurs as well reaches about 4000 rpm at times. engine light threw 4 codes, all to do with o2 sensors...

Sounds like a broken or torn vacum hose, pcv valve clogged, or bad Idle air control motor. Did you spray carb cleaner on vacum hoses or near the plastic intake., and did the motor rev up or down? Those codes represent a lean condition which means most like a vacum leak or clogged idle air motor. Sometimes the intake manifolds crack or the intake manifold gaskets crack. FInd that vacum leak or inpect iac motor

When im idling in park or neutral engine revs high to low and car wont start sometimes but has no trouble cranking.engine is a 2.2liter volvo 240dl ,1990

These cars used a motor underneath the intake manifold to control the idle. The crank sensor may need to be checked, the signal to the motor needs to be checked. If you have a seperate control module (passenger footwell, right side, behind the plastic) under the main fuel control module, you may want to check the wiring on that as well. The Haynes manual for these vehicles describe the system very well.

PO171 error code System too lean bank 1

Here are some possible causes, I would start with anything related to replacing the intake.

Air leaks in intake manifold, exhaust pipes or exhaust manifold
Fuel control sensor is out of calibration
Low fuel pressure (fuel filter clogged, pressure regulator failure)
One or more injectors restricted or pressure regulator has failed
O2 sensors contaminated, deteriorated or has failed
Vacuum hose is disconnected, broken, leaking or loose

Cold Start Idle Issue

Problem might be the air control valve, it's located at the right side rear of intake manifold and has a hose going to the air intake duct from the air cleaner, as a test you might try pinching off that hose when the idle is a problem.

Trouble Code 33 and 34 are the MAF/MAP Sensor Circuit. It sounds like you've replaced that sensor already. Did you also have the code 34 before putting in the new sensor?
Or did this code start after it's replacement? Any other codes appearing?

Troubleshooting it would depend if it has the Speed Density Update. The dealer should be able to provide that info.

Here's your fault code list:

13 oxygen sensor circuit 14 coolant temp sensor circuit (high temp) 15 coolant temp sensor circuit (low temp) 21 throttle position sensor (TPS) circuit (high signal) 22 throttle position sensor (TPS) circuit (low signal) 23 manifold air temp (MAT) circuit (low temp) 24 vehicle speed sensor (VSS) circuit 25 manifold air temp (MAT) circuit (high signal) 31 wastegate solenoid electrical circuit 32 exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) circuit 33 mass air flow (MAF) circuit (gm/sec high) 34 mass air flow (MAF) circuit (gm/sec low) 41 cam sensor circuit 42 C3I EST or bypass circuit failure 43 electronic spark control (ESC) circuit 44 oxygen sensor circuit (lean exhaust) 45 oxygen sensor circuit (rich exhaust) 51 PROM error 52 calpak error 55 ECM error
