1991 honda accord S light flashes

Mine acted similarly, except it started in 2nd and skipped third. The (S) light was constantly blinking. I replaced the AT control unit (located under the carpet on the front passenger side). Now I have all gears and it shifts smooth and great. Unfortunately, it is still stuck in sports mode, and doesn't come out of second until about 3500 to 4000 rpms. Oh well, atleast I'm not manually shifting between two gears anymore. Oh yeah, you can also completely remove the ATCU, use the shift lever release key-hole-thing to put it in neutral, and then start it and drive around on only 2nd and 4th gear. This will work in case you ATCU completely fries and you can't go anywhere. (ONLY FOR EMERGENCIES) Keep in mind, the car will not let you take it out of park unless you use the key to release the shift lever.

There is a common problem with these transmissions. Mine has the same problem. The most common explanation involves the ECU, which involves the actual electronic control of the shift pattern. A new one is 187 bucks, but I'm going to try my luck at a pull-it-yourself junk yard. Replacing this will be A LOT easier and cheaper than a whole transmission replace job. Hopefully the car I pull it off of isn't in there for the same problem. Also, try disconnecting your battery for about 15 seconds, then reconnect it. This kinda sorta sometimes might possibly have a chance of maybe almost temporarily fixing the problem, for a minute or so, or less. Hope this might almost kinda sorta help fix your car.

Actually, let me correct my previous statement, I think it's a TCM (transmission control module), not an ECU.

Wait, no, it's definately an AT Control Unit. It says this right on the faulty box, which I replaced yesterday, thus completely fixing the car's transmission problem.

The gear slips at 3rd gear. The S light shows that there is some problem, if you have the diagnostic tool you can know exactly what the problem is. You may want to flush the transmission fluid and fill-in the new one. That's the cheapest try n error, if it doesn't work then the best thing to do is to replace the whole transmission with reconditioned set.

94 accord skips 1st and 3rd gear

Greetings!! Hey David I would check the solenoids in the transmission near mounted in the transmission body. I have a 92 accord and went through the same sittuation and it turned out to be one of the solenoids that was causing the problem. If you look at the engine of the car, you will see two of them, the firstone is set a little higher in the tranny. That is the one that I replaced and it worked fine after that. I supose you are getting the D4 light to come on and blink when the failure happens. Anyway, check that out and I am sure you\'ll thank me later. Good luck man!

Transmisson car stay at 3rd gear

Thats a common issue with the TCM when is about to go out.. Once you get to 3rd gear take you foot off the pedal the if you let go of the pedal and slowly accelerate it should go in 3rd gear. You can order a unit from this site with a lifetime warranty. Good Luck and the HONDA on the road.

My s4 light on my 1989 honda integra is flashing and car only will start when light stops flashing whitch happens when ever it likes 2

I found this one the

You have a couple of choices on this Honda transmission... D and S modes. Consider the D as the normal Drive mode and the S for Sport mode. The difference between the two is that in "D", the transmission will shift through the gears all the way to 4th gear and at lower rpm shift points. In "S", the transmission will shift at higher rpm levels and will go no higher than 3rd gear and light S3 on the dash. Once the vehicle is in 3rd gear (S3) you can then press the S4 button and the transmission will go into 4th gear (when conditions dictate). I believe there is even an S4 indicator on the dash signifying the trans is in 4th gear

The last line looks like it is the key here though.

If the car thinks its in 4th gear when you are trying to start it, obviously it wouldn't could probably hunt around and see if there is a sensor on the transmission stick that runs the "D" vs "S" mode

Have you mistakenly push the "sport"button at the gear shift knob? Because if you do so, the S ligh will stay on.
