How do I change the starter in 1994 Silverado 350?

The starter is approximately 3 inch diameter x 10 inches long. The truck is a 2-wheel drive.

Man, your in luck, the '94 starter is fairly easy to change. Two bolts are that holds it on. Just disconnet the solenoid wires, take out bolts. Reverse for installation.

4 half inch u bolts on the rear of the drive shaft and out it comes easy job 2 of the caps are easily removed the other two are drove into the drive line.. you might need a press or a hammer and a 3/4 socket to get them out.

I need to change out the ignition on my 94 explorer cause my friend im buyin it lost the key so do you know how to get it out without the key?


You need to turn key to ON position and stick pin or paper clip in hole on side to release it so you can pull it out.

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION Ignition Switch Lock Cylinder (Without Key) NOTE: The following procedure applies to vehicles where the lock cylinder is inoperative and the lock cylinder cannot be rotated due to a lost or broken ignition key and the key number not known or the lock cylinder cap is damaged and/or broken to the extent that the lock cylinder cannot be rotated.
Removal
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable . For tilt columns, tilt to the full up position. Remove the steering wheel , steering column locking lever (3B661) , and steering column trim shrouds as described in this section. NOTE: When drilling out the retaining pin, take care not to damage the cast housing.
  1. Punch the lock cylinder retaining pin with a ***** punch (1/8 inch maximum outside diameter). Using a 3.17mm (1/8-inch) diameter drill, drill out the retaining pin going no deeper than 12.7mm (1/2 inch).
  1. Place a chisel at the base of the ignition lock cylinder cap. Using a hammer, strike the chisel with sharp blows to break the cap away from the lock cylinder.
  1. Using a 9.8mm (3/8-inch) diameter drill, drill down the middle of the ignition lock key slot approximately 45mm (1-3/4 inch) until the ignition lock key slot breaks loose from the steering column cover casting. Remove the ignition lock key slot and the drill shavings from the base of the cover cast housing.
  1. Remove the lock cylinder drive gear, bearing retainer and actuator from the casting as described in this section. Thoroughly clean the components in an acceptable cleaning solution. Carefully inspect all components for any damage resulting from the drill operation. If any of the components show signs of damage, they must be replaced. Clean the casting with compressed air to remove any drill shavings or foreign particles and carefully inspect it for damage. If the casting is damaged, replace it with a new one.
Installation
  1. Lubricate the lock cylinder with grease.
  1. Reinstall the lock cylinder drive gear, bearing retainer and actuator. Lubricate with grease before installing.
  1. Turn the lock cylinder to the ON position and depress the lock cylinder housing retaining pin.
  1. Insert the lock cylinder into the lock cylinder housing making sure that the tab at the end of the cylinder aligns with the slot in the steering gear (3504) .
  1. Turn the key to the OFF position. This action will permit the retaining pin to extend into the lock cylinder housing hole.
  1. Using the ignition key, rotate the ignition switch lock cylinder to make sure to correct mechanical operation in all positions.
  1. Connect ignition key warning switch terminal and wire .
  1. Install the upper and lower steering column shrouds as described in this section.
  1. Install the steering wheel as described in this section. NOTE: When the battery is disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the powertrain control module relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 10 miles or more to relearn the strategy.
  1. Connect the battery ground cable .
  1. Check for proper start in PARK or NEUTRAL. Also check to make certain that the start circuit cannot be actuated in the DRIVE and REVERSE positions

How to change the starter . for olsmovile aurora 1997.


Starter REMOVAL & INSTALLATION 3.5L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Lower front air deflector
    • Starter electrical connectors
    • Torque converter cover
    • Starter bolts and shims
    • Starter Fig. 1: View of the starter - 3.5L engine 9306xg02.gif
    To install:
  4. Install or connect the following:
    • Starter. Torque the bolts to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).
    • Torque converter cover
    • Starter electrical connectors. Torque the positive battery terminal nut to 84 inch lbs. (10 Nm) and the "S" terminal nut to 20 inch lbs. (2 Nm).
    • Lower front air deflector
    • Negative battery cable
  5. Lower the vehicle.
3.8L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Splash shield
    • Flywheel cover
    • Starter electrical connectors
    • Starter Fig. 2: View of the starter - 3.8L engine 9306xg03.gif
    To install:
  4. Install or connect the following:
    • Starter. Torque the bolts to 32 ft. lbs. (43 Nm).
    • Flywheel cover. Torque the bolts to 22 inch lbs. (7 Nm).
    • Starter electrical connectors. Torque the positive battery terminal nut to 12 ft. lbs. (16 Nm) and the "S" terminal nut to 22 inch lbs. (2.5 Nm).
    • Splash shield
    • Negative battery cable
4.0L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Negative battery cable
    • Intake manifold
    • Starter electrical connectors

    To install: WARNING
    Before installing the starter, torque the inner solenoid and battery terminal nuts to 70 inch lbs. (8 Nm). If not properly tightened, the starter may fail due to terminal or cap damage.
  3. Starter. Torque the bolts to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm).
  4. Starter electrical connectors. Torque the positive battery terminal nut to 70 inch lbs. (8 Nm) and the "S" terminal nut to 26 inch lbs. (3 Nm).
  5. Intake manifold

Need to change the starter on my 95 nissan pathfinder. how do i do that


1. Drive the front wheels up on ramps. Set the parking brake, block the rear wheels.
2. Disconnect the battery ground (negative) cable.
3. Get under the car, behind the right front wheel. Look up, the starter should be on the side of the engine where it meets the transmission. It is a cylinder about four to six inches in diameter and about a foot long, with one or more wires attached to it.
4. Remove the wire(s). One is a big cable, like a battery cable, bolted to a stud on the side of the starter.
5. Remove the bolts that connect to the starter to the transmission (bellhousing), at the back of the starter. Sometimes there is another bolt near the front. Careful, it is really heavy. Gently lower the starter down and remove it from under the car.
6. Reverse the above steps to install the new starter.

I have a Jeep 1994, tires are (P235/75 R15) Want


I did a quick calculation and found that the 245/70R-16s are 29.50 inches in diameter and a little more than 9.6 inches wide. The max for a stock ZJ is 30 inches diameter and about 10 inches wide; so they might rub a little, both on the LCAs during a tight turn and the wheelwell during full compression.

They will give you another inch or so ground clearance than the 245/70R-15s you have now. However, the lug pattern for the 16 in rims might not match; the stock ZJ pattern is 5 on 4.5 inches. You might have to use adaptor spacers to match the lug pattern on the 16in rim, which might be a good thing; the spacers will keep the tires off the LCAs.

Remove Back Seat:
  1. Locate the retainers securing the seat bottom into the vehicle, approximately 10 inches from the end of the cushion, either side. Use your thumb to push in retainer release tab. Lift the seat up to remove.
  2. Remove the two 13mm screws securing the seat back, located on each lower corner. Lift seat upward to release seat back from brackets at the top. You can carefully prop the seat back under the retracted top , use caution if choosing this method not to damage or scratch the vinyl of the seat. You can remove the seat from the vehicle completely by disengaging the flanges securing the top of the rear seat to the fabric of the convertible top well .
  3. Remove Quarter Trim Panels:
    1. Grip the Quarter Trim Panel Cap at the shoulder strap opening and lift up to dislodge the retaining clips.
    2. The inside Quarter Trim Panels are two-piece panels. Remove the upper portion of the Quarter Trim Panel from the vehicle; it is not necessary to remove the lower portion. Pull the forward edge of the trim Panel over the pinch weld in the doorjamb.
    3. Use a Door Trim Tool (Fork Tool) to dislodge the pushpin retainer at the rear edge of the Trim Panel approximately 4” down from the top, pry Trim Panel toward the outside of car to release retainer.

I have a 1995 mercury mystique and can't find the starter


The starter will be on the under side of the vehicle, on the engine. Look tor the component that is cylindrical shaped and has at least two wires going to it (one large approx 6 gauge and one small, approx 18 gauge). It will be 6-10 inches long and 3-5 inches in diameter.

The starter can also be located by finding the red wire on the battery and tracing it under the car where it connects to the starter.

It will be where your engine meets the transmission. When it juices up, it sticks a gear out that connects to your flywheel then retracts after you stop cranking the engine.

Easy way to identify a starter, it will have a thick red battery cable bolted to it (actually bolted to the solenoid). This cable also connects to your battery. A starter is cylindrical, heavy, about 10 inches or so long and about 4+ inches in diameter.

  1. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Negative battery cables
    • Right front wheel and fender splash shield, on 6.6L engines
    • Turbocharger exhaust pipe, on 6.6L engines
    • Mounting bolts/nuts and shim, if used
    • Starter
    • Wires

To install:
  1. Install or connect the following:
    • Heat shield and bracket. Torque the bolts to 13 ft lbs. (17 Nm).
    • Wires.Torque battery wire nut to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm), and ignition nut to 18inch lbs. (2 Nm) on 6.5L engines. On 6.6L engines, tighten the solenoidnut to 30 inch lbs. (3.4 Nm) and the positive battery cable nut to 80inch lbs. (9 Nm).
    • Starter
    • Mounting bolts/nuts and shim,if used. Torque the bolts to 33 ft lbs. (45 Nm) and the nut to 75 inchlbs. (8.5 Nm) for 6.5L engines. For 6.6L engines tighten the starterbolts to 58 ft. lbs. (78 Nm).
    • Turbocharger exhaust pipe, on 6.6L engines
    • Right front fender splash shield and wheel, on 6.6L engines
    • Negative battery cables
