I guess you're talking about the fuel pump. Buy a good quality fuel pump, ie. ACDelco. Also replace the fuel filter. If it is full of debris the tank may need to be cleaned out/replaced.

04 jeep grand cherokee v6 - i was driving on the highway when the engine overheated and turned off and would not start until it cooled. what could be wrong or what could i check to find out? thanks

Hi.

Common fault is fuel pump getting damaged after engine overheating.

The pump is located in fuel tank, to know if pump is working, check fuel pressure using an hand gauge. It is available for $25 or so.

Check if there is coolant. If engine restarts check coolant level, if that goes down, then the head gasket has been damaged.

If fuel pressure is OK, check injection and distribution.

The vehicle turns over. When you step on the gas pedal no gas is going into the carburater. There is gas in the vehicle. Bad fuel filter or bad fuel pump?

You have fuel injection on there. Fuel delivery and pressure are checked at the fuel rail. You should hear the pump in the tank come on when you turn the key on. If not check the fuse, pump and asd relay and the pump itself. Another common cause is a bad crank position sensor. If failed, the pump will not come on.
Test procedures can be found in haynes and chilton manuals.
Always test first before buying parts.

it could be that one of the injectors is bleeding off pressure not allowing enough fuel pressure to start. the 5.9 and 6.7 cummins need at least 2000 psi to start
