91bmw 3181 coolant drained. Connection fr rad to motor appears to have broken at motor. Not enough to connect back up. Piece on motor too short. Is it much work to replace the piece on the motor

At the motor? That is odd. Is the part plastic? BMW currently sells a metal thermostat cover for this car. The 6-cyl BMWs used a plastic thermostat cover which failed routinely.
The BMW thermostat cover should cost you about $50 at the dealer or $40 on line. Gasket is sold separately. You will want to replace the thermostat while you have the thermostat cover off.

BMW 318i what part is that?? question

Looked at image and would say that that is where the hose comes off for the heater , but wouldn't know what to call it. Take the picture to the bmw dealership parts dept. they will know what it is called and order it for you. It the metal pipe broken for sure , or is the leak coming from the hose or the seal ?

Your coolant system aint heating up like it should. Its your thermostat. You need to change it. its broke. There are four parts to your thermostat. You need to make sure that you get all four parts out. A thermostat costs about five bucks. Its an engine temp. regulator. If its broke your engine wont warm up at all. If it seizes shut, your engine will overheat. Your thermostat is broke. I Have the exact same car that I have been repairing for the last three months.

1999 BMW 323 convertible Radiator Replacement

BMW radiators are relatively cheap even at the dealer level ($250 approx), however BMW will almost certainly tell you that you must replace the thermostat. The thermostat is one of those parts that either works or not and if it has failed, you will know immediately after you test drive with the new rad. you should do that first before you waste more time and money on a thermostat you don't need. Most BMW's have a rad with a plastic upper hose connection and this fails - this is different than most other vehicles where the rad plugs up and the overheating prior to the final failure of the rad damages the thermostat

I got in a wreck, dont know what parts i need

Try this website: This lets you put in the details of your car and then lets you access a parts list with exploded diagrams. Below is a list of all the parts in the diagram with their BMW approved name and BMW part number. It also gives the price or the parts in USD. My local BMW dealer gave me the website as it seems to have the same information as he uses. I have found it very useful.
