Question about Mazda MPV

1 Answer

I have a 1996 MPV that all of a sudden it started to rev high and low, meaning I didn't need to step on the accelerator, it would accerate all on its own and when stopped I revved it up and it started to go high/low. Have been looking for a vaccum leak but no problem solution yet. It's like it's hunting for where it needs to be.

Use a can of WD-40 and spray it on the vacum lines and around the intakemanifold when the engine is hot and running. This will cause the engine to rev up when it is sprayed on the vacuum leak. be sure that the engine is at operating temperature as this is when the vacuum lines and gaskets tend to fail.

If it is an auto then it is possible it is idling to high and the trans is still engaged despite you foot being off the peddle. Try lowering the idol speed as a first resort.

I have a 2002 Mazda MPV. When I start it and drive it revs really high. Sometimes i can take my foot off the gas and it will still accelerate, A LOT! Also when it does this it shifts really hard and there...

The transmission is slipping, have it checked for low fluid level, if that is ok then you need the transmission rebuilt or replaced with a factory rebuilt exchange unit.

Will not start when cold have to hit the acelarator

Hi! Since stepping on the accelerator works, then I assume that your engine is carbureted and the carburetor is the problem. I had the same issue before when I had to step on the accelerator every time I start. Have your carburetor checked, the fact that you need to step on the accelerator means that the engine is lacking air for the amount of fuel in it. You might end up having to do a carburetor overhaul.

When it revs high, is it down shifting? if so you may be running out of gas. low fuel pressure or lack of fuel getting to the injectors. (fuel filter)
