It is probably just the two smallest connectoers on the starter solenoid are crossed. one is to supply power to activate the starter, and the other supplies full 12 volt power to the ignition while starting. if crossed, the wire to the ignition will supply power to try and activate the starter.

I have a 94 olds cutlass ciera. I have replaced the battery, new cables, altenator, starter, and I have a re-current problem of turning the ignition and I get a click, and then finally it starts.

The click is the solenoid not getting enough power to energise the starter and engage the pinion gear. Either the battery is weak or the connections going in the starter circuit have excessive resistance and need to be tightened/cleaned.

I have a 94 Oldsmobile cutlass Ciara when I start it I hear a loud knocking sound smoke coming from oil dipstick tube and idles real hard please help me with this issue

Smoke from the dipstick tube is potentially bad news especially if it puffs like an old steam train.

Clearly further checks are needed to make a complete diagnosis but the initial indication is a problem with a piston or pistons or broken or badly worn piston rings allowing an excessive amount of combustion gas to escape into the crankcase.

How do the wires go on the solenoid on a 94

Most starters have one large wire ( the same size that goes to the positive side of the starter) and another wire (which is smaller) that goes to the ignition switch and only receives power when the key is in the crank position. So if those two wires end up touching each other somehow, then that is exactly what would happen. When you connect the battery terminals the starter will engage and try to start. Originally I don't know why you replaced the solenoid, but a cracked electrical portion of the ignition switch will do the same thing. So what I am saying is if you replaced your old solenoid because it burned out, there is always that possibility that your ignition switch was faulty and burned it out. Good Luck. Hope this was a little helpful.

We are replacing the starter solenoid on our 1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciara. When putting the new one on the car acts like it wants to start. What do we do?

Hello! Check your wiring...If +12 volts is connected to the "S" lead the starter motor will run...Lets check the wiring...
The "M" lead connects the solenoid to the motor...The "B" lead is the main +12 volts from the battery (Black Cable)...And the "S" lead is the smaller gauge Purple wire which is controlled by the ignition switch...If the Purple wire is making contact with the Black Cable the starter will run...

Ym oldsmobile cutlass supreme wont start and i put

Worst case or one suggestion might be the timing chain. I bet I get some flack here from pros and dealer techs, but the slow cranking is what I keyed off of. Iam sure the knowledgable olds folks will help you. Also bad battery cables, bad starter or just it's solenoid. Do you feel it is a starter issue as in cranking or no start as won't stay running?

Where is the cam sensor located on a 1994 olds cutlass cerias

with a 3.1 liter , remove and install directions are remove serpentine belt , remove power steering pump assembly , then remove sensor harness , sensor bolt , remove sensor , so it sounds like behind the power steering pump assembly area if that makes sense . it has to be real close the the cam gear , you should be able to find it .
