Lost key i bypast but how do you unlock the wheel ?

My truck, a '97 nissan HB has exactly the same problem.

I find the best way to get around it is violently 'feel' for spot in which the key will be able to turn (you got to put the key in the ignition, then pull it out a little bit). If the Steering Wheel is locked you must violently shake the steering wheel side-to-side with one hand, as the other hand plays around with the key.

I have had the truck long enough to get used to the problem, I get it pretty fast now. However, when I let my buddies borrow the truck, they usually spend forever figuring it out and have to call me in frustration!

Bought a 96 nissan last year (2008) and had the same problem for a while. It seemed that it only happened with 1 of the 3 keys i had. my girlfriend sat in a parkinglot for almost 4 hours before someone helped her out although no discovery of what the problem was.

at times the problem was because the wheel was locked and turned too far over. with key in ignition and "turning" it as if your starting the car, give it a nice **** in the opposite direction. this sometimes fixed the problem but was not a solution.

then a friend mentioned that you have to insert the key into the ignition and then you pull it back out JUST A LITTLE BIT, i repeat, A LITTLE BIT. if you do this slowly you should feel it "unlock".
(i dont recall if he mentioned that this was on all cars up to a certain year or just on Nissan's.)

that worked. NOW, WE JUST DONT LOCK THE WHEEL...EVER!!

hope this helps!!

Need a key for 1985 Nissan pickup

You should be able to give the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) to the dealer of a good locksmith and have them make you a key. It should be located on the dash drivers side where you can see it through the glass.

yes this will fit, model years 88-97 will fit. I would recommend the newest model you can get, as they improved internal hardware after 93. hopefully this helps

Lost key

you would have to remove the ignition if you want to know how i will tell you but it would be much easier to take out the passengers door lock and take it to a locksmith and have them make you a key for about $10 to $15 dollars
