Funny, we have an '04 Grand Prix that does the same thing and I have found several other postings online from people who have the same problem. It is at about 58,000 miles and it will start up just fine and then shut right back off. It only happens in the heat of the day and only occasionally. So far none of our mechanics can find anything wrong with it. Please if anyone knows something HELP!

My pontiac 04 was doing this. Now it has slowly progress to worse. At first it would die as you were going full speed then it started dying randomly but you could put the car in neutral and it started back up but now you must pull over let it set for a minute or 5 then it starts right back up .Does anyone have a solution?

Possibly the crank sensor, it will make the car shut down for no apparent reason. then the car will start after it sits for a bit.

My 04 Grand Prix was doing the same thing. Not sure if what I found was the reason for it, but I removed the air filter portion of the intake, reached into the intake a little pulling the throttle plate down. It was caked in carbon build up. With a lint free rag and some throttle body cleaner, I scrubbed the plate and since have not had anymore issues with the car not starting. Hope this helps anyone.

02 Grand Prix GT 3800 starts and stalls immediately (especially when warm). Will start up again and run fine, though it may have to be cranked a bit to get started the second time. I cleaned the MAF sensor...

Id say maf again, due to the previous instance, however on a 3.8 i wouldnt be above checking the fuel pressure regulator for seeping through the vacuum hole. The boss has a 00 impala with a 3800 and my wife does both with 230k roughly on each, seen quite a few of those regulators and maf's over that time.

Depends on what sub-model you have. If you have an SE its a 3100 3.1L Engine. If its a GT its a 3800 3.8L Engine. If its a GTP its a 3800 3.8L but with a supercharger.

2001 Grand Prix GT 3800 series engine

The best solution is to do a complete tune up with new spark plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter, pcv valve and oil change.. If this still happen I would get some fuel injector cleaner, or use marvel mystery oil in both your oil(crankcase) and gas tank. You can get mystery oil at walmart..its in a red bottle with black label.

Power steering fluid on grand prix

You should add it to the power steering pump reservoir, which if you have the 3800 series II its behind the engine on the passenger side.
