Question about 2002 Land Rover Freelander

Fuel pump problem

I had a problem with the diesel pump in my freelander 2.0l td4, it would not start one day and i had only stopped driving about 10 mins. the ignition turned but would not fire. There are 2 pumps one in the boot and one running by the sill on the drivers side. the 1 in the boot is fine and when I started to tap the other one with a screwdriver it began to whirr and then started again this happend on and off for a couple of days so i filled up the tank put some RedX in and it has been fine for 2 months. I let the tank get a.
bit low so I put another £50 of diesel in and then after 15mins when I went to start it again it has done the same. Is my pump on its way out or am i just dragging some **** through by lettig it get low.
Ive been quoted about £230 for a new pump without labour
Thanks Mike

Hi Mike,

The problem sounds as if you're going to need a new pump....but before you replace it, try find a friend who can help you clean the system....You don't say anything about replacing the fuel filter, or any of the other filters....I think that's the first coarse of action for you to take.... the unfortunate truth of the matter is that once you begin having problems with the pump....for what ever reason, the pump usually is damaged....and it becomes undependable....
.....You'll have to decide, if you will take a chance and wait for it to stop and leave you stranded somewhere, or if you'll take the action before it happens?

Best regards Johngee10

Low Fuel Pressure on Landrover Freelander TD4

From 53 reg onwards, diesel pump is under R.H. rear wheel arch, hidden by the plastic wheel arch liner. Older versions have combined fuel pump/sender in the tank (under R.H part of rear seat).
You should be able to hear a faint purr from the pump when ignition is turned on but engine not yet running.

Freelander td4 power loss at 70mph

yeah, don't drive so fast!!!!...seriously i would do what has to be done anyway to start. change fuel filter, air filter, spark plugs, spark plug wires. these have to be done at some point if they haven't been.. if that solves your problem, if not look at fuel pump, injectors.u didn't say if it used to go faster, maybe there is a limiter.

Diesel filter

The fuel filter is under the bonnet, on the left side behind the engine bay fuse box. Adjacent to the 2nd low pressure fuel pump.

Can not find filter

Hay..It's easy to find....It's in the rear left hand Conner under the engine compartment..Always replace it in to the order..because sometimes td4 will not rev above 2000rpm if the fuel filter got blocks...
