Problem with Volvo 2005 S40

2005 Volvo S40 Car Alternator

Does anybody have any guides to changing an alternator on this vehicle? Have aircon, not sure if the compressor is driven on the same belt. Dealership quoted £700/£800 which absolute daylight robbery, can do it myself but rather follow a diagram from Vadis if possible. Can get a Ebay part for £200. If its too complex, guess trade in/run with the keys is the only option. Thanks

You'll need a torque wrecn and a degree tools (most auto parts stores sell them). Torque sequence is 15lbs, then 37lbs then 130 degrees.

    • Sorry, I added that above by accident. What is the make and year again? S40's weren't made prior to 2000. On most Volvos you have a hydraulic tensionor, you use a long 14mm wrench to pull it over, then pin it in place with a drill bit. You'll see a dog ear on the top of the tensioner with a hole in it. Some models have changed the belt sizes and routing so I need to know what you actually have to be sure I am answering you correctly.
