Question about Mercury Cougar

1 Answer

1988 Merc Cougar LS, 5.0L automatic, 120,000mi. After 10 minutes or so, the digital speedometer dipsplay goes out, the fuel needle goes to emptly, no blinkers and the fan motor doesn't work. Each time is starts fine with everything working, then after 10 minutes or so, the problem starts. This recently started after traveling over a bumpy gravel road (ND road construction). Thanks, Sonia Nybo, Beulah, ND.

How do I fix my horn on a 1988 cougar ls

Check your fuse. Then test for power at the horn with a voltage meter. If no power there, then check the horn relay. If there is power at the horn but it doesn't blow, then replace the horn itself.

1988 Mitsubishi Mighty Max 2.0l auto 120,000mi will die and takes 30 - 60 mins to start?

You would need to figure out if you are dealing with a fuel problem or ignition problem to proceed.
Checking the fuel pressure and for spark at the plugs when it will not start is a good place to begin.
Could be a relay or a long list of other things.

1988 merc grand marquis, vacuum diapram, symptoms? any gear i put it into, i hear a vacuum like sound, is this it?

The 1988 merc has an automatic emergency brake release that has a valve on the steering column under the dash, when you put the tranny in gear it sends vacuum to the valve on the brake to release it. It could be the valve on the steering column that is the problem. Good luck!

My 1988 Chevy s-10 engine runs fine for 1 minute, then sputters until it stops 1 minute later. Why?

first start with your timing. if not th problem you need to check for a vacuum leaks. make sure all hose have no leaks and are connected.check wiring harness connection to distributor, coil, or alternator for being damaged or loose. last is to check if you have a good fuel flow to the engine. It could be the fuel pump or just a bad fuel filter

The service light is on in the middle of the digital speedometer. it just says service

You need to have some one read the computer codes. That will tell what tripped the light.

Engine monts

Normally you put a floor jack under the engine front or flywheel with a 2x6 cushion board attached and jack it up an inch or so to releave the pressure on the motor mount. Then with mechanic tools and wrenchs remove and replace the motor mount.
