cabin air filter is in the airbox behind the glove compartment,
unclip the glovebox, look behind it for a small access door, undo the latches, and voila! theres your cabin air filter! (if equipped, some model equinoxes dont have it!)

Water pump is locate on the front center of the engine.
I will rate water pump change as a 7/10 in difficulty scale.
You should check for special tool(s) requirement from the library before you start.
It's a good time to change the drive belt at the same time.
50/50 coolant mix is fine.
If you haul heavy load or in cold climate then bump it up to 60/40 mix
DO NOT FORGET to find or draw the belt routing diagram before you undo the tension.
A 30 second sketch will save you a lot of time.

I can almost guarantee you have a blown head gasket. I had all of these symptoms too. Bubbles in the antifreeze resevior when cool, loosing antifreeze when driven and finally smell and white smoke out the exhaust. Even a pressure check of the radiator came out fine. This seems to be a common problem with the 05 Equinox due to aluminum heads. Cost me about $1600 to fix but the new gaskets are supposed to be made to withstand the expanding of the aluminum heads.
