There is a very good chance that you smoked a wire somewhere under the dash. if this is the case you will need to find the wire and replace the entire length of wire

Where is the fuse for the cigarette lighter on a 1964 ford fairlane?

There's only one fuse block on the old cars, in the instrument panel on the driver's side. If the fuses are not labeled, use a test light to check every fuse. Only takes 5 minutes.
These are the old style fuses, with a round cylindrical clear glass in the middle? They push into metal clips on each end of the fuse?

Then ground a test light to a good ground under the dash- a bolt, screw, or metal. Now turn the key to ON. Every fuse should now be powered. Touch one end of the fuse or the metal clips with the test light-it should light up. If it doesn't, recheck the ground clip of tester-have to have a good ground. A good fuse will light the tester on both ends of the fuse. A bad or blown fuse will only light the tester on one end of the fuse. Power comes in on one side of the fuse terminal, and if the fuse is good, power will also be on both ends or terminals of the fuse.
A few fuses are hot at all times- the horn, tail lights, and brake lights for example. With key on, all fuses are hot-should have power on them. Modern fuses can be tested this way as well-all modern fuses have a test port on each end of the top of the fuse-this port is open to the metal strip inside the fuse. If power is on both ends of the fuse at the test ports, that fuse is good-you don't have to take it out to inspect-use a test light and check for blown fuses this way.

To test a cig. lighter: Ground the test light lead. Pull out the lighter. Use the needle probe of tester and carefully touch the center element inside the lighter base-the heating element-don't let the probe touch the sides of the case when touching the heating element-you may blow the fuse. If the lighter is good, with key on, the element should have power-will light up the tester. If the base part is good, has power, then maybe the pull out piece that lights cigarettes is bad. Or the lighter case is not grounded good. Some are case grounded to the metal dash, but some may have a ground wire on the back side of the base, behind the dash-check for that. The power wire to the lighter attaches at the center of the lighter base. If there is a ground wire, it will be attached on the side of the base, again this is behind the dash.

03 mustang dash and tailights are working

if you installed an aftermarket stereo, the tail lights run through the illumination. make sure all wires are hooked hot to hot and ground to ground. if you installed it while battery was hooked up and touched a wire, most likely blew a fuse

Neither lighter outlet works on my 01 allero, just bought it used so don't know if and when they did work! Help..need to charge stuff!!

You have options there. First use a test light and probe the center terminal of the outlet. If it has power, check the ground on the socket. If no power, check the fuse. (if you have no diagram, probe all of them and replace any that don't have power at both ends with the key on, and replace any that are blown. the one you are looking for is usually 20 or 25 amp). Your other option is to create a new circuit. To do that, find an open fuse port that only has power with the key on. attach a wire (close to 14 gauge is best) to a spade connector and plug it into the fuse connection that has power. Run that wire to the connector at the rear of the accessory port (lighter housing center post). If you do that, make sure you install an accessory fuse holder in that wire that is rated at 25 amps. I use that method to install additional ports so you don't have to plug in one of those "octopus outlets" in a working power outlet. Only difference is that I also install a new lighter housing into the dash. That requires a new hole in the dash or console and a ground wire to the outside of the housing.

My 1992 pontiac firebird i cant get power to my door locks, trunk, headlights, domelights and now i cant get power to the switch to start the car whats wrong with it?

Most likely blown fusible link on starter. Back probe smaller wires from starter, checking for power with a test light. Usually it is within the first 6 to 12 inches away from the eye where it attaches to starter. Cut out burnt piece & attach new section of fusible link wire.

How do you remove the centre console on a ford cougar.

I believe it was a Mercury Cougar, and the center console should snap right out, a couple screws near the floor, and maybe a couple up top, under the armrest, you will have to look, most parts like this snap right out, may be a couple wires attached. You might have to put the shifter in neutral or low to get past it. So park on level ground. If it is the dash you are going for, it is a bit more complicated, but still, a couple screws, and it too will pop off with wires attached. Hope this helps.

1994 Ford Probe GT - 1. Key stuck in ignition 2. Hazards on

Hello , I am a locksmith in Az. The Ford, Chevy& Dodge igns up until 2004 all had this problem. You will need a new updated "side-bar free" ignition to cure that problem. If you decied to splice wires , yes it will work, but you will need to be extra EXTRA CAUTIOUS IN RE-ATTACHING WIRES AND MAKE SURE THAT WIRES ARE IDENTICAL IN COLORS. (not yelling) just making sure you understand the importance of this procedure.
