Question about 2001 Ford Ranger Regular Cab

1 Answer

Humming sound I am driving a Ford Ranger 2.5D (2000).The problem is when I reach 80km/h, there is a irritating humming sound and fades away as you increase speed and starts again as you reach 120km/h. I am not sure where the sound comes from. It sound more like its coming from the drivers side so i am not sure how to eliminate the components, whether its the gearbox, engine, wheel bearing, turbo charger. Please assist

When it's in neutral and you hit the gas, does the rpm rise slowly? And if you try to give it too much throttle does it choke and try to die? It sounds like your catalytic converter is partially plugged, or there is some other exhaust restriction. If the check engine light is on, there may be relevant diagnostic codes available, some of the auto parts chains used to read the codes for you for free, but I'm not certain that is still the case.

Did you ever think that a car and heavy duty trailer might be too much of a load for a Ranger? That sounds like it would be alot for a 1/2ton truck, let alone a little Ranger.

My car makes a droning or humming sound around 2000 rpm along with vibration but it goes away as soon as I increase the speed or come to a stop.

could be the timing belt tensioner. with the timing casing removed place a socket extension bar on some metal then to your ear as it will help you locate the noise. be careful tho. failing that big end shells i would check. hope this helps

Humming noise in dash starts huming between 80km/h-95km/h

Could be something loose in the dash assembly if you car doenst act weird when you reach this speed. I wouldnt worry about it too much, but if it worries you take it to a dealership or a mechanic.

as for the rattling sound have you checked the heat shield on the catalytic converter, mine was loose and was causing a rattling sound when it was at idle, and would go away as the rpm's increased.
