Steering wheel slightly hard while turning my car

The two systems in question are not related, so you have two issues to deal with. The power steering issue could be as simple as a glazed or loose drive belt. When you turn the wheel, the power steering pump puts additional load on its pulley. If the belt is glazed or loose, it can slip momentarily and cause stiffness in the steering. Low or contaminated power steering fluid can also cause this. Moisture in the fluid will cause problems since water compresses differently than hydraulic fluids. As far as the transmission is concerned, there are a lot of things that can cause late shifting, from vacuum issues to solenoids, to fluid quality and level.

Steering gets stiff when turing

Sounds like your power steering pump is acting up. Check for steering fluid level and make sure it is at proper level. If that doesn't help or the fluid is really old, consider flushing the power steering system. It is not very difficult to do. Makes it easier if you have someone to help. There are great deal of online videos on how to flush a power steering system. If that doesn't fix your problem, then it may just be the time to replace your power steering.

First I'd check your power steering fluid. However it's common for the rack and pinion to go bad as the vehicle ages, other than that it could also be you're power steering pump. You will have to have a mechanic take a look at it to be sure.

check your power steering: for leaks and also the tightness of the belt. More then likely the belt or the pulley on the power steering is the problem, Tim

all power steering fluid is the same actually us can use transmission fluid if u want
now being as you had to add fluid i would assume u have a leak some where in the system
you may be low on fluid also there probably air in system (when u have a leak it also allows air into system especially when you run low on fluid)
also if anyone ever put stop leak in system stop leak is a lot thicker oil and will take longer to heat up and thin out in cold weather to allow easy turning
first check for leaks repair if needed
if no leaks are found drain system add fresh power steering fluid
if that doesn't fix problem you have a bad power steering pump replace pump

Toyota echo steering is very stiff

Look at the amount of power steering fluid in your power steering pump.
If it is low, then add until a normal level.

If you don't know how to check or add fluid correctly get help in doing so.

If this does not help, then have the Power Steering Pump Tested by a mechanic.
